Track day related question ... what are the db limits at the various tracks, and are they changing (getting lower) over time?
Getting my 5 together at the moment but I'm not sure it would pass any of the tests ... it's a 4.0 V8 with 1 silencer and no cat ... so how do I get my car tested?
I know there are aps you can get, has anyone used them and how accurate were they?
Any other options for testing the db of my car once it's finished? Thanks in advance!
Russell

Most of the trackday booking sites should have the db rating for the track, failing that the tracks themselves should have the info on their websites

I hate noise limits. Ive had to put my cat back in a couple times on the side of caution to have the confidence to book on to track days and pass the tests at some tracks.
I remember saadat failed at combe a couple of years ago. That was gutting.. but that car was Canoeing loud! Then phil failed at brands on a drive by.. the drive bys are the Canoeers. Im scared of those.
For a static test you can go to Castle combe when they have a trackday on or race or action day etc.. they will do you a free STATIC noise test.
I just about pass at Combe with a static test and im running a loud setup atm.. i wouldnt pass at other tracks until ive quitened down the system which is planned for later this year.
You have to keep it quiet as possible really especially when considering canoe marshals and drive by tests at some tracks. You could pass a static test on the day but then fail a drive by test on your first lap.. then you get blacked flagged and not aloud back on.. no refunds on the trackday either!
Its pisses me off tbh but we have to adhere.. my dads Tvr chimaera 4.0 v8 with stock exhaust passes at Castle combe on static test at 95db.. my sc mx5 is 98db with noisy system. Id fail a drive by at most tracks 100%

I can't wait to get itbs and fail due to induction noise when I used to enter road-rallies, induction noise (& echo) was an issue with escorts running split dellorto's some people added 'simple' temporary fixes like a towel wrapped around the airfilter for the noise-test:| a better fix was using thin (~3mm) rubber sheeting to seal the car to the sumpguard - also benificial for limiting the mud etc getting splashed around the enginebay Rich.

Start off with lots of silencers and keep it quiet. Then make it progressively louder.
I like a good sounding car, but maybe my age I know prefer them to not be ear split tingly loud. The MINI runs a pretty much stock John Cooper Works system, it sounds nice and walks noise limits on track days.
