What light weight wheels to buy ?

RPF1 are readily available.. 949 Racing 6ULs are also very light (5.2 kg in 15x7).

The TD Pro Race 1.2 wheels are excellent for the money but just over 6KG. TBH, though, they're a strong design and cheap in the UK and popular with UK racers for great reasons.

I saw a set of CE28N for sale on Ebay recently, 15x6.5 but still excellent wheels and crazily light weight.

I'd give a vote for the RPF1's, genuinely lightweight and actually good value, plus they look awesome (but better in 15x8)!

I would take some quoted weights of wheels with a pinch of salt too, the list above doen't take into account the offset of the wheels - the lower the offset the more the wheel will weigh as the hub is physically longer. For instance the team dynamics pro race 1.2 are quoted around 6kg however I've just got a set in 15 x 7 et20 and they actaully weigh 7.1kg

Are any of the (properly) lightweight wheels actually 'cheap'?

The Pro Race 1.2s I've seen for something like less than 400 quid, which I think is reasonable, but those CE28N rims look to be £1k a set... lol

The Pro Race aren't light though, even compared to a random, generic cheap alloy. If you want cheap and light, one of the Rotas is sub 5kg for a 15 x 7. Can't remember which one ... Will edit it in here when I find it, along with a few realistic options


Rota GT3 5.7kg
Rota slipstream 5.8kg
Traklite Burn or Gear circa 5.5kg from memory
OZ Ultraleggera / superleggera 4.9kg

Also various oem enkei wheels around the 5kg mark. There's a set of 15 x 7 Enkei RP1 for sale on one of the FB groups

They don't seem that ultra light in the RPF style lol (6.5kg stated) but they are much cheaper!
