Oh yeah there will be videos for sure, these trumpets should get rid of that horrible mid throttle hiss/whistle too, which always annoyed me with the old ones. I think I just bought a nylon one or whatever they're made of. Honestly I've lost track of the things I've bought at this point haha. I can't wait, red roof will have to wait a while, but will get it sorted in a month or two. Red roof will look really good, if you find where to get one let me know please. I tried nylon and it was still a little sloppy, bronze bush is another step up again. Looking forward to the vids. I've seen some places but all quite expensive, as most only do the red in high quality mohair with a heated screen, so it's like £650 fitted haha. I found a mint one for £300 in Crewe, but the guy refused to hold it, wouldn't take a deposit, and I was like well I'm not driving 4 hours each way to find out it's already gone haha. So annoying. Hmmm, I'll give it a go with what I have, only 10 minute job to remove the center and swap it all if I want to upgrade it.

I am jealous of that flywheel It's coming together nicely! Workshop facilities must make things a lot easier, although anything involving being under the car to remove large bits of metal is a step outside my comfort zone... lol What are your thoughts for paint? (You may already have said and I've missed it.)

Workshop facilities must make things a lot easier, although anything involving being under the car to remove large bits of metal is a step outside my comfort zone... lol What are your thoughts for paint? (You may already have said and I've missed it.) It was a good buy for sure! Yeah having the unit has helped a lot, weather is irrelevant, if it's freezing we even have a big old gas heater to use, it's a bit convoluted to light but once it's on it's lovely and warm. Yeah we still don't have a lift, so it's not exactly lovely to work on the floor, especially as I really should have put the car higher on the stands to do the box haha. Paint is all bought, filler primer, and 2K Toyota Ivory top coat, to be properly gun sprayed on by my mate in the first weekend of May. Car is fully prepped apart from a couple of small bits to finish. Whether it's to his standards or not is another thing, but he said we can both do prep at his workshop if needed. This is the colour, same as my mate's AE86:

Ok big update, some absolute sauce in this update. Got the last corner of polybushes in: Replacement box is in, with fresh rear seal: New stiffer engine mounts, clutch, release bearing and the 4kg flywheel are in, car started up so I fitted the flywheel right at least haha. When refitting the box me and a mate spent a few minutes laying on the floor laughing at how low on the stands the car was, he couldn't believe I'd even managed to get the box out with it so low. Anyway we raised the car much higher and got it all done. He's got the big strength that I lack so he bench pressed the box while I wiggled stuff to get it to go on haha. Coilovers were raised to max height: Winched onto truck: We set everything up, panel wiped, my mate got everything masked: Primer went on well, high build stuff so has hidden most small imperfections beautifully: Guide coat was sprayed over after, and we flatted the primer back with a good old wet sand: Most stuff came out good: But then we noticed a couple of paint lifts on the front bumper in the swage line, it was really ugly, I had prepped it quite well but just these fiddly little areas that looked so poor, so I used 240 in the swage line and a couple of other areas, up to 600 once the paint lifts were gone, and then he went for round 2 on the front bumper: It worked beautifully, and came out so much better than the first attempt, well worth the effort. Top coat went on (note, looks much more banana milkshake yellow in these initial photos due to the lighting in the booth): We then riveted the overs and ducktail on top of the painted rear wings and boot. We wanted to get some paint under them for maximum protection. Anyway here it is in natural light, still cream but much more of a white tone to it than inside: Was still in bits so still looked a bit like a ropey shell, but as it's come back together it's really taking shape now: Quite a bit left to do, but I'm slowly and carefully reassembling, refitting seals and stuff. New slave cylinder and braided clutch line was fitted last night, doing pads and brake bleed tonight, as well as fitting my spare black soft top. Coilovers have been lowered back down. Various bits left to do, but it's come out so good! It's not concourse, but it was never meant to be. It's one colour and it looks a damn sight better than any driveway rattle can job most people do, so I'm over the moon with it. What a macheen.

Nice, saw it on Instagram, it's looking good so far, with all the other changes it'll be like a completely different car. More ITB vids required

Nice colour, a bit like the BMC Old English White, but creamier. Lush. Nice work, especially doing the box with the car on the ground. I'm too old for all that malarkey.

LOL Personal taste is always subjective What sort of cost is the respray running you? I need to magic up a couple of grand for total rust removal and respray, or DIY bodge the rust on my drive and then paint it with a roller...

I do wish I could paint - I see some of the stuff on the various American shows covering different garages and the paint is amazing. I'm pretty sure that level isn't possible in a cold, dusty, rented asbestos-roofed brick-built garage with spiders in it, though lol
