Twin tapered roller bearings,? Sounds like a cortina hub... but made out of aluminium to attract the gullible with faaar too much money. possibly so but theres plenty of instances of 'the emperor's new clothes' in all car scene's with many money making schemes based around 'possibly' needed 'upgrades' at least with hubs theres an actual use as in competition use where components are stripped, cleaned & inspected between use and a t/t bearing hub allows some alterations that 'fixed' preload bearings cannot - like setting more free-play for pad 'knock-off' (saves brakes dragging, used to do this on rallycars at expense of slightly more brake-pedal travel). also with the oem type fixed preload ballrace hubs you are relying on manufacturing tolerences to have 'good' bearings, can also get 'loose' or 'tight' preloads with little chance to alter (ok, can strip the hub & either shim or grind the inner-races to adjust preload BUT neither are a good & longterm solution, more a quick fix) another possible issue (as seen in US racing) is that oem hubs can fail, the flange can crack with extreme cases having whole wheel / disc assemblies leaving the car! I guess Wilwood would not have invested R&D time, effort & money into an unnecessary product? I cannot warrant spending £600+ on hubs but might machine something similar, obviously my time would cost less but theres still materials / bearings etc to factor Rich.

Zed, take a look on miataturbo.net. There are already two DIY capable solutions that have been tried and tested out there. Toyota MRS hubs for the rear, Tailgate McNoIndicate E30 hubs for the front. The MRS hubs need minor machining and some spacers to fit, the E30 hubs need more work in the form of an aluminium wheel adapter and sleeve adapter. Pretty easy to machine a set if you have a decent lathe, or hit the easy button and buy them directly from the guys that figured it out with all mods included for fitting.

Already read that (& more) a while ago, MT.net is a good resourse I don't like the solution with B MW E30 front hubs, adapter sleeves & spacers can cause unwanted movement & are an extra possible failure point the Mr2 rear drive-flanges are a clever solution, an ammount of standardisation coming to the rescue with a thicker flange as the result (also a slight increase in 'un-sprung weight' but thats minor) my intrest is with the twin-taper bearings & aluminium hubs, adjustable, servicable and light weight also I'm considering a pcd change so 'standard' hubs are not realy compatable with this... my origonal reason for posting about these hubs was for information purposes and also as content to try & help some 'quiet' forums (here & 'nuts) Rich.

bofi sell timken hubs? from their website advert.... www.miataturbo.net/race-prep-75/sm-weekend-failure-wheel-hubs-90331/post 1..... therefore mazda oem hubs must be very weak.... anyway, aluminium replacement front hubs for mk1 & 2 escorts / cortina 1-5, triumph herald / spitfire / lotus7 & even Vauxhall Chevette are priced from £50-100 per side so the mazda 'Scene-tax' has a lot to answer for Rich.

Maybe they only last if you're a decent driver

It all depends on the grade of aluminium used, there is a saving in weight but an inevitable loss of strength.
