Thanks for all the replies!
I’ll keep an eye out for a 2nd hand cappuccino tank, don’t fancy paying those prices for a new one. In the meantime I think I will just give the ally tank a good clean out and then see what happens using concentrated screen wash mixed with deionised water just to see if that fluid stays uncontaminated a little longer than just plain water (probably not), also I will fit an inline filter to stop any blockages.
As Atlex says alloy washer tanks are prairie canoe - it seemed like a good idea when I bought it (quite a few years ago) but it was soon an issue initially with the outlet pipe constantly blocking due to corrosion (eventually I modified it by removing the ally outlet pipe and sealing in a silicon pipe) and more recently with the fluid going milky .... you wouldn’t believe the mess it makes when it gets sprayed over the paintwork! ... although now I think about it the water that is in there is probably 3+ years old so maybe I just need to change it more often.
Anyway thanks again for the responses / suggestions.

The Cappuccino tank is an expensive part to begin with, to be fair. I got one years ago from a Suzuki dealer and it was around £65 back then. I've seen that it's half that price if you know where to look but then of course you've got to get it here...
Does anyone know if it would be practicable to retrospectively anodise an aluminium tank to stop it corroding? I vaguely remember it was something to do with caustic soda but my memory fails me. Or perhaps it's not just aluminium and that's the problem - maybe there's something in the weld that isn't ally and just keeps it corroding.
