I dabble in web design as a part time business - and a month or so ago, decided to have a go at building a UK/Ireland wide classifieds site. I've done a few e-commerce sites before, so it was as much to learn something new as anything else. Of course... the idea to try it was based on reading 18 pages of complaints on a certain MX5 related place elsewhere!
I've shown it to a few traders in private who were really enthusiastic about it. In particular, some of the specialised dealers are paying through the nose via Auto trader and the likes - so they are keen to try something MX5 specific.
Here's the main features:
As the ads roll in (hopefully!) - the UK/Ireland map fills up with the icons of what's for sale and where. Who doesn't want to see the UK full of lots of tiny turbos!
Searching can be done in a number of ways... you can drill down by region/county and see stuff that way.. or just type in your postcode or address and ask for stuff within x miles of home. Here are a few screenshots of that in action. I hope that this one will prove handy for people looking for cars close to home.. or big parts that just cant be posted.
Searching by region/county:
Dynamic searches for stuff close to your actual address:
Or just browse by category (and if you think I got these wrong or forgot something important.. just shout!)
I've got a few traders who have given me banners for the site and there's a few more to come in this week. I'm at that tipping point where the site is ready to go, but yet not ready to go until I have a few initial ads on it! Catch 22! Having spoken to Horney earlier this week... I will OF COURSE be sporting a Mighty5's banner all over the site to drum up a bit of publicity for the forum
If anyone has parts or a car that you would like to list - then please feel free to login and fill your boots! I don't want anyone to think of it as an attempted replacement for ANY forum's classifieds section - but rather an extra resource where you can also list your stuff for free. An MX5 specific alternative to eBay or Gumtree.
Also... if anyone spots any obvious errors (like some of the English and Scottish counties... ) I'll happily accept the feedback and make the changes.

Here's the main features:
- Private ads are free and always will be (although you can pay a quid or 2 to get front page featured/bold/top of section for 30 days)
- Any traders are welcome to a free banner and free ads for the 1st 6 months to test the water. Thereafter, I will consider low cost subscriptions for traders.
- All adverts link into Google Maps showing your ad by location.
- Searching is easy.. just start typing and the search results come straight into the page. You can also look for ads within a given distance from you
- No need for passwords! If you are on Facebook... just 1 click on the social login button logs you in. (there's also Google & Windows Live logins).
