Having now done with track days.
It’s a changing thing, track days, and now belongs to the younger ones.
Over the last three years more and more cars are arriving that are not daily drivers at all.
Or they are the Super 7 style of car …. Hmmm, let’s not go there eh?
Resulting in track days now being “race days”. That’s ok, but no longer for me thanks.
Zed and I like a Sporty drive, no chance with anything else with Zed in the co-drivers seat …. Oh come on. I kid because I love …..
Anyways …….
I’ve also now become the owner of yet another NC, as my NB was written off.
So I’m now looking at good road tyres but as quiet as possible.
For some months the Yokohama Advan Fleva V701 was my front runner.
67db and £106 all in and fitted. That’s for 215/45 x 17.
Now however I have been reading about the Continental Premium Contact 6 Contisilent. Well that doesn’t roll off the tounge.
Not sure of the db value yet but it is an ‘A’ rate. Got a great write up and it’s £87.91 all in and fitted… Asda.
The other one is the Pirelli noise cancelling range.
The technology
Among the tyre makers, Pirelli has been a torchbearer with its recent breakthrough technology for the noise-cancelling tyres. The Pirelli Noise Cancelling System (PNSC) reduces the noise and vibrations created by tyres on the road. Known as the tyre cavity noise, Pirelli’s technology uses a sound-absorbing sponge which substantially decreases the amount of noise and vibration filtering inside the cabin.
Goodyear too has developed the same technology where a cushion is deployed between the tyre wall and the wheel to decimate the air creating vibration when the vehicle moves. Christened as SoundComfort Technology in Goodyear’s books, it functions in the same manner as Pirelli’s.
Here are the names that each manufacturer likes to call its noise-cancelling tyre technology;
Bridgestone – B-Silent
Dunlop – Noise Shield Technology
Continental – ContiSilent
Hankook – Sound Absorber
Michelin – Acoustic Technology
Anyone here tried any of them?
Regards.
Rich.
