Just need to clean it again now, and fix the head lights, I'm just somewhat terrified about removing the airbag. Had an absolute blast in the wet, I was so impressed how well it handles now, was managing to over take my friends who were in an atom and a Westfield and could not put any power down, as I could still rocket through the corners. Just so much fun, can't wait for the next track day at Combe Attachments:

the OZs are a great wheel! :-)
there's a mighty5s trackday once a year but you'll find ton at formula G events and Howard and others are hillclimbers par excellence.

Well it's been an eventful week or two for the Mazda, took my mum out for a drive on her birthday, forgot I was driving the Mazda which is now quite low, hit a speed bump and crushed the cat and knocked the back box off... 3 days later, sports cat and ss exhaust fitted, sounding lovely and just in time for combe last Friday! Also raised the suspension so it now at least clears the floor on the way into/out of the garage, handling incredibly well. Has so much fun at castle Combe

Today I failed to get my dipped headlights or full beams to work on rotation of the stick assembly...
This has been an ongoing issue I'd love some advise on, one day my car lights decided not to pop up!
Symptoms Left stick functioning correctly, wipers work!
Rights stick... Indicators work. Pull stick toward you, head lamps pop up, full beam flash, head lamps go down, good. Twist stick for side lights, also works, good. Twist stick for dipped head lights, or full beam, nothing, no lamps pop up, no lights come on.
The button on the centre of the dash works to pop up the lamps, but if I then twist the stick the lights don't magically come on.
Turned to the forums, I found out about relays, swapped some fuses around under the bonnet, no change.
Next suggestion was the stick connections themselves, finally got the bravery up to remove the airbag, took the whole console off and have spent all evening meticulously cleaning the contacts with cotton buds and contact cleaner. Just went to test them, nothing still broken.
Does anyone have an ideas what else it could be?
I can't find a wiring diagram for the contacts in the plug of the column control assembly as I want to rule in/out this unit before chasing phantom wiring issues
I have the rhd airbag control assembly, N038 17A256, which I can't find for love nor money to buy, hence the cleaning attempt.
Can any one help shed some... Light on the situation?
Wiring diagrams for head lights and column control assembly? Advice for what else to check or how to diagnose.
I would also note, I don't really understand how the twisting of the stick enables the lights, I see a wire coming out from the base of the stick and the contacts don't physically move when you twist the stick, anyone have a scematic of how it works? I assume the twist is separate to the contacts and works by switching a relays somewhere else?

I think I found the wiring diagram, and may have found a relay I haven't approached before, Looks like I found another relay it could be 🤞

More progress, I've found the relay of suspicion. Anyone know how I can test this, to verify its knackered, again new ones aren't plentiful online and would rather test this one before punting £50-100 on a used one online!

I've resoldered all the joints on the relay, as alot had corrosion dark rings, all looking nice now Still no joy, I'm back to thinking it's the stick mechanism, but I can't find an exact replacement to buy and not sure how to test it, anyone know how to dismantle the twisting mechanism on the stick itself?

I've traced the wires coming from the twist stick for headlights, little red and white wires, there is a connection there when I stick a multi meter on them. I can also hear the relay ticking when I click the switch around, so potentially not the stick or the relay. Would a single shot head light cause both headlights to stop popping or coming on? Yet full beam still works? I'm so lost now

View AttachmentIf there's another one the same, you could swap that into the suspect one's position.

So would keep going on the relays and switches front. Presume you've checked all the relevant fuses?

First port of call was checking the fuses, I've had my multi meter on the stick and think it's making the relevant connections. Before I resoldered all the joints on the relay there was no click, since resoldering them all I hear a click but still no light or pop up action. I guess clicking doesn't necessarily mean it's working and I've changed the issue, as it now clicks, so I've ordered a new relay and will see if that solves my woes! Fingers crossed
