For those novices who may be interested;
Please note that you need to be a member of an MSA motor club (google your local one, bung them ~£20). The events themselves cost about £15-£30. All you really need is a road legal car, a bit of fuel and some tyre tread. Tests are 1st or 2nd gear and there is very little chance of any damage to your car, with cone scuffs most likely but only if you're pushing hard. Generally your first investment would be a set of wheels/rubber to ruin, leaving you something to get home on, but many people manage multiple events on a single set of tyres, especially in the wet. Its competitive grassroots motorsport but with a laid back inclusive atmosphere, the perfect place to learn how to get the most of your car. There are mx5's at pretty much every event so you will usually have someone to compare yourself to (for better or worse) and chat to about how the power steering can't keep up and your arms hurt. Please do note that not all clubs are invited to all events, but it is generally the case that a polite request will result in an entry for you and your club.
