Hi guys,
I'm Diego, writting from Austria, and the happy owner of a 2005 MX5 NB bought back in March this year with only 93.000 km and from a first and unique owner. The car is in very good shape and of course I already did all the typical maintenance services, including the timing belt, all done by myself at home.
I joined the forum searching for some help since I'm planning on bringing down the transmission for replacing the clutch and the pushing bearing, but I'd also like to open it and check the synchro rings as I do feel some lack of synchro every now and then (mostly with the gearbox cold), and mostly between 1st and 2nd gear, where the gears are not as smooth as I'd have expected.
For the moment I'm presenting myself, and will upload some pics of the car asap.
Cheers,
Diego

And now the pics. By the way, the only change I did to the car so far is the installation of a Novus muffler.

Hi, Welcome to the forum. Do you live in a very cold area ? I might be worth trying a gearbox oil change and using synthetic gear oil before you do a strip down of the gearbox. There is also a small oil reservoir in the turret under the gear lever that is worth checking. Have you tried to double de clutch during cold gear shifts. ( look it up on the Web if unsure )

Removing the gearbox to replace the clutch is possible at home – it will really help if you can get the car nice and high off the ground. Taking the gearbox apart to hunt down a potential problem is a much more complex job and most people would probably just replace the whole gearbox instead, so there's not likely to be a huge amount of help on forums etc...

Wilkomen ! I recommend running a flyinmiata gearbox oil mix (it's redline lightweight shockproof and redline mt90 gl4 1:1) and seeing how that goes. You can always drain it and reuse it if you need to do something else to the gearbox. The turret should be some 90w or higher weight oil, the thicker the better frankly a nearly-grease would be more sensible than regular oil.
Gearboxes also need to warm up but a good oil mix should help it. Gearbox servicing is the most ignored in most cars.
