How To: MK1 1.8 Bargain Basement Induction Kit Apr 5, 2016 17:48:16 GMT

Have a MK1 1.8 MX5 or Eunos? Here's how to get a nice induction growl and shiny stuff under your bonnet for less than £30 and 10 mins work.

1) buy these two items:

2) Unclip the MAF connector tuck it out of the way. Then remove the two hoses from the airbox and then unbolt it from the car and remove it.

Now it looks like this:

3) Now remove these two bolts from the side of the airbox and you can separate the MAF from the Airbox.

4) Fit the MAF back to the crossover pipe like below:

5) Assemble the filter and heat shield and fit it over the open end of the MAF making sure you use the right number of inserts in the filter to get a nice fit. I pushed it all the way on as far as it would go. DO up the clamp, clip back in the MAF sensor and in my case zip tie the filter to a spare bracket until I have time to knock up something a little more permanent. Also pop the bolt back in that holds the diagnostics box bracket.

6) Go out and make some noise!

You need to buy an additional adaptor to put the cone onto the MAF.

I did v similar on my 1.6 I also added some pipe to force feed cold air from the front grill up to the filter - and then went for a n/s vented headlight cover.
Both work well otherwise it gets mighty hot under there and you are sucking less dense air in and it does make a difference
I actually put a temp datalogger on the air filter - forcing air in the from the front of the car lowered ambient from 80c to 24c
Sad i know - but worth knowing

Turns out I didn't actually order the bits. Wondering, it's been a few days, why hasn't it turned up yet. My PayPal decided to check me for money laundering. Fun!

Obviously you have fitted a heatshield, but with it being metal doesn't it just get red hot sitting that close to the manifold?
