Right chaps & chapettes, I have fitted Zeta S coilovers to my NC recently. I raised from the out-of-the-box height to 345 centre to arch to allow me to leave my speed bump ridden street, and got the alignment sorted out so all is spiffing. Pre-load and damper setting is still as it came OOTB.
I find the ride a bit harsh for the prarrie canoety roads and my achy back so I want to soften it up a bit. I know the little adjuster on the top is for this but I have also read mention of tinkering with the pre-load. I know what pre-load is but I'm not really sure what it actually does.
So if I left the damper setting as it is and reduced pre-load, then adjusted the height back to 345 - what effect would it have on comfort and handling?
What about if I left damper setting and increased pre-load, then set height again?

Easiest thing to do first would be to do the top adjusters. Wind each one all the way to fully soft counting the number of clicks and making a note for each one. Then wind on 5 clicks of hardness from full soft and see how you go. I've always been lead to believe running any adjustable on fully soft is a bad idea for the valving but I don't know if this applies to these.

The preload was only off by 1-2 cm in the few cases it was wrong so I doubt that is an issue for you unless you made it more loaded than default. The damping adjustments with the top adjuster will make the most difference IMO. As Horney says, switch it all the way to soft and see how it goes. Maybe we can invite Jerrick onto this forum :-) He and people are quite good at answering questions.

Ok where do I start..........
Lots of variants here so bear with me. What Spring rates do you have? As already said soften off the dampers and try that. But dependant on what Spring rates you have you can never have your cake and eat it!,,
Softening off the pre load will make it softer on the turn in, making the steering less positive, however too much will make it feel great on changing direction but will bring other issues like Locking the wheels under braking.....this is because you don't get weight transfer onto front axle which in turn increases tyre grip.
Basically setting up any car can be a nightmare and everyone IS different. Feel free to call me if you need any help....
