Blow off valve, Dump valve, Wastegate, whatever the correct terminology i still cant help but chuckle, anyway, just bought a rather nice Mk1 1.6 Turbo with said valve and to be honest the chattering of the "valve" is gonna do my nut in. Even the "chirp" on most turbo's that ive heard would be more acceptable. Question is why do i have a "chattering" and is there a way to eliminate it. I understand that waste has to go somewhere but my old turbo didnt suffer from such bad flatulence. Would that be because it had a recirc pipe diverting the waste back into the inlet manifold and if so would this be a relatively easy conversion to do on the new one? easy question for some of you, and although i know the fundamentals for turbocharging i am now grey of hair so be gentle with me and keep it simple cheers Darren

Turbo flutter is a much nicer sound than a dump valve! I love the noise, if I ever make turbo noises with my mouth it will always end with a flutter, because I don't own a turbo mx5

the BOVs do serve a purpose - they let the turbo spool disappate without backpressure, which can mean quicker spool-up and also less turbo damage.
a recirc BOV can do both a dump and recirc job as depending on whether you feed it back to the intake (pre turbo). I'm probably going to try recirc mine at some point.
I don't like the noise they make but I do like the positive effects.
recircing just means making sure your bov dumps air out some suitable outlet (25mm is common) and you can hook a hose up to an inlet pre-turbo.
do't buy a non-recirc dv tho, those can't be modified. or cost a lot like an ssqv which has different fittings.

Blow off valve, Dump valve, Wastegate, The first two is the same thing, the latter is an exhaust bypass making sure that you do not explode you engine by running all of it. Recirculating would quiet things down.

What recirc valves are people running? Its probably aboout time I got myself one, as entertaining as the fluttering is its probably going to take its toll on my turbo soon, and getting rid of the stalling would be nice.

I'm on a Forge FMDV006 - great piece of kit on which you can change the springs, too I'd run a Bailey dv30 if it wasn't for the Forge I have.. Previously I've had an HKS SSQV with a recirc fitting - sexy but overcomplicated/overpriced IMO.
