Okay so I am looking at installing some gauges in my dash, but I am a total noob and I just seem a little bit of guidance and advice.
I will eventually turbo, I already have a kitty set aside that every spare penny goes into for my turbo build.
So I want to get an oil temp and pressure gauge.
1. can I get a gauge with both readouts for a decent price?
2. do I need a sandwich plate that has two outputs if I can get said gauge?
3. am I barking backwards into a mirror?
4. I want to get an oil cooler, should I wait for that as I assume that has then another sandwich plate/adapter?
I am sorry feel free to pelt me with eggs and point and laugh!

you're not mad. it is neater to have just one gauge instead of two. but you know there is already a std. good oil pressure gauge for the mx5 ? (see bottom) you can install on a mk2/2.5 oil cooler is more valuable than a gauge readout imo if you are tracking it. you either have oil pressure or you don't (oops). www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/gauges-auxiliaryselect "oil temp" and "oil pressure" in the Type section on the left.

Yeah ive got the oil temp on the dash in mine, its a 2004 plate. I suppose if that's good enough its not worth spending the extra cash on a dual gauge? Do the gauges normally come with sandwich plates?
Thanks for the help!

If your getting an oil cooler you will need a sandwich plate of some sort for that anyway, I suggest you get one with a built in thermostat as cold oil can be just as bad as hot oil. Most sandwich plates I've seen have two holes for sensors anyway.
Some models already have a small oil cooler, if I recall I think it's the 1.8 engine (Anyone got more info?). Might be worth finding one of these as a cheaper option until your really hacking it about. I'm pretty sure you unscrew the central thread to swap them but don't quote me on this as it was a long time ago I was looking into it.

Do the gauges normally come with sandwich plates? Thanks for the help! 2004s have a fake oil pressure gauge. Doesn't give meaningful numbers (i.e. it'll show if you have pressure or don't, but nothing like "how much pressure" ) You can replace it with a mk1's gauge and sender and you'll get something more useful there. cheap mod.

My '96 1.8 did not have any sort of oil cooler but perhaps some did?
If you aren't too concerned about Stack gauge mega accuracy you could go with one of the 3 in 1 oil pressure/oil temp/water temp gauges from D1 Spec. Mine was quite affordable, can't remember exactly how much I paid but it has been fitted for a few years and works well. A friendly fella called Nas sells them on some of the other forums but I have yet to see him on here. He is usually fairly easy to spot at Santa Pod too with his Magician pink S13.

it'll have an standard oil cooler you just don't know what it looks like because it is standard. the standard oil cooler exchanges the heat in the oil into the coolant, it's very small but perfecty effective for most driving. It's actually the thing you put your filter onto When we say fitting an oil cooler we mean fitting an aftermarket one - one that exchanges the heat in the oil into the air directly - a small radiator look up 'mocal oil cooler' for what those look like. there are other brands of aftermarket oil cooler that are good too lulz.

Well I never! I never would have clocked that. Cool that it has one but you'd never know. Last time I was doin a doriftu I hit 110 degrees, but I was being greedy not doing a cool down lap.
