Well over the past 6 months i have drastically reduced posting over there but kept on posting on a few threads. As some will now i have been involved with the eu thread after todays events and some posters comments im done with nutz now.
The forum has seriously gone down hill now and will only get worse from now on mighty5 all the way.

Most of the regulars posting on nutz these days are either keen cyclists or weirdo's who don't even own an mx5. Very strange.

I do find it really fatiguing how the only thing that people on there really seem to be interested in is endlessly arguing about their political ideologies.
To be clear though, I'm not knocking the forum itself, it's been a great help to me as a new MX5 owner (which is the point, after all). But sadly it seems to have been invaded by some keyboard warriors who quite frankly don't seem to care about MX5s at all.

it'sa bit like most big forums get - the talk slides to being majority of off-topic things, with a mixing in of noobs asking all the same questions
at the moment we have the luxury of having mostly enthusiasts and people who know each other personally so there's more community - we don't have an "us" or "them" yet

Yeah that is true, it's hard to continually find new topics of conversation which haven't been covered before, particularly when the main subject is a car that's been around for as long as the 5 has.
Off-topic conversation is fine, but when it relapses into endless pages of repetition of the same old arguments it adds nothing to the forum and only serves to divide people who otherwise could share a common interest in that they are car enthusiasts. How they vote is irrelevant to that.
As my dad always said - there are two topics of conversation that you should never get drawn into: politics and religion.

I suppose it was inevitable really once Daz decided to move on.
I enjoyed my 8 years moderating over there, went to a few meets and shows, tried to help others however I could.
You just get tired though, especially when you're pushing for change and nothing happens.
I don't post anything like as much as I once did on any forum really, mainly as I don't currently own an MX-5 (waiting for a new ND) but also because other priorities come along.

I think priorities is a big part of any forum. You afford that forum your time and, based on priority, how much of it. I look on nutz (and this) every day but I'm not a prolific poster at all. The threads I like, I read and the ones I don't, I won't. If I can't add anything credible then I'll add encouragement - it's often the only contribution I have. But the EU thread on nutz is an excellent example, not only of some nutz threads but also some forums in general. Some strong personalities with strong opinions that they wish to share and, if possible, convert you to their way of thinking. Whether that is because they want to help someone or want to be seen to be right, I'm not sure. Whichever way, I don't have time for that - there is no point trying to put across a point that will only be vehemently denied, at best. Sometimes I feel it's not even worth asking a question for the multitude of opinions. There is no 'right' answer in that and that is where forums fall down IMHO.
I wouldn't say I'm done with nutz but certainly, there doesn't seem to be anything like the activity that we used to see...

I'll be clamping down on any topics which contain heated debated. I'm all for free speech but banging on and on gets no one anywhere. We're to have fun, not argue about immigration or if stretched tyres will kill kittens.

What about whether foreign tyres will stretch immigrant kittens?
