Not sure how practical it is given other gains being made with the usual 4-stroke cycle and multi-stage ignition processes...
but it certainly is interesting.

That is very interesting Sounds workable- it needs one of the big car manufacturers to take it forward A small high efficiency petrol motor is exactly what is needed for hybrid cars

Stuff like this reminds me how thick I am. I love it.

Anybody clever enough to work out what actual average mpg, 226g/kWh is? It's not easy

Anybody clever enough to work out what actual average mpg, 215g/kWh is? It's not easy cos I'm sad i worked it out as roughly 85mpg but that is assuming that 1kwh takes you 3 miles and there is a lot of variables in that

It would be very useful to have mpg values for when you're hooning it. A 185bhp engine may return 85mpg when driving sensibly, but if you've got 185bhp you are going to use it, and presumably the mpg would drop off fairly quickly as with any other engine?

Yes - it's difficult to accurately convert g/kWh into mpg because they are different types of unit. Having said that the 1kwh to 3 miles is supposed to be fairly "real world" driving. I bet the 215 figure they give is on the test bed at optimum revs so much better than you would get in a car

There are so many other things about this other than fuel economy that make it interesting. Cooler exhaust has many possible benefits

This is really interesting. I wonder if there would be any long-term implications of having a cylinder fed only by exhaust gas? Would it eventually become choked up with carbon deposits?

I'm wondering whether this means you could place turbo chargers of varying/reducing sizes between each cylinder for ultimate silliness/efficiency?
