WoW! That was one hot weekend! 27C heat is in the air and here we are, going round and around barrels nearby biggest stadium in London. Close by we have prestigious moto stunt competition. Action is rolling, everyone is busy. On Sunday I qualified first, shaving 0.5sec faster time than any other RWD driver. Which is really good achievement, as the track was only 19secs long and main competitors have really big guns under their sleeves (s13, s14, skyline with Tailgate McNoIndicate m5 engine, e30 with v8 and so on). (Hence my new nickname - Giant slayer ) The top8 battle was followed by top4. I won those and here we go - top 2 battle, gran finale! Tension is high, crowds cheering, I’m more than able to beat my opponent.. But.. everything is not that easy is it? I made a mistake, hit a barrel and that’s it - finished second. Everything went so fast, and it was so close! Still, it was a great experience! Not everything went as I planned, but good results nevertheless Need to learn from mistakes and do it better next time! (you can see the trace of barrel on front bumper - it had cost me 1st place and sponsorship to go to Greece and compete in Ken Block's Gymkhana GRiD)

Thanks guys! Yeah, my car was a real stand out at Gymkhana qualifier, because it was simple everyday car compared to everyone else glowing paint, or some sort of vinyl would help me to blend in. Atlex, you are faster than me! I can't keep the speed updating this thread As you can see I went to Nurburgring, had a few laps on it, just to taste it. Impressions: VERY fun and not as dangerous or stressful as I imagined. It's my fastest time in the video, but it still was a very conservative lap with a lot of traffic (three yellow flags). SHORT RAM INTAKE I did as small DIY job and fitted Short Ram intake. OMG the sound is awesome! Butt dyno doesn't tell me any difference, but eargasm levels increased by a huge multiplier! That growl on WOT is awesome! and very addictive to.. Probably not the best thing for fuel consumption, but who cares! Here is a short example of how it sounds. MAINTENANCE Also I've fitted Magnecor KV85 ignition leads and NGK BKR7E-11 sparkplugs. These plugs are a bit colder than normal NGK BKR6E-11. And it is recommended for FI application engines, so I'm not so sure if I did the right thing fitting these to my NA engine. Maybe you can shed some light on this?

Formula G - UK gymkhana finals
During qualification the track was wet and everything went extremely well. It turns out that new tyres (Toyo R888R) grip really well in wet, although I had some doubts before the start. 360 spins wasn't a problem either. I managed to qualify 1st, which was nice. When we got to head to head battles the track dried out, and my car problem surfaced. It turns out (no pun intended) that my Limited slip diff is not working when turning right. So doing right 360 and 180 turns I effectively had an open diff. Unfortunately, because of that I lost a lot of time on the track and finished 4th overall. Nevertheless, it was a really fun weekend! It is so nice to see my friends and it's a real hoot to go out and compete with them on the track! I love such weekends.

Thanks, Atlex! It's so much fun doing FormulaG. Next year it will be bigger and better. Guys, you should try it too! Formula G facebookOil catch can
Formula G requires oil catch can if you have open breather. Had a quick one installed before the race. Not really tidy and looks really bad, but hopefully, it works. After whole competition day it didn't catch any oil, but then again, I didn't have many runs as practice runs were canceled because of heavy rain. Oil day
Had a full oil service today. It took loong time to pump the gearbox and diff with oil can, BUT it is finally done. Mobil goodnes to engine, gearbox and diff. Self service garages FTW! It's very enjoyable to work on your own car in decent conditions! I'm not really happy with K&N oil filter. I can't say anything about filtration performance, but it is very small.. (comparison with last filter which was waay smaller than FEBI one previously). next time I think I'll go for OEM mazda. It seems that my gearbox and diff had quite a few crunchy moments. Comparison before and after cleaning.

Winter cap is onNormally I drive with a soft top, but now winter is coming so I got my winter cap on. Competition season is over, the car is sitting almost without use. I'm thinking maybe it is a good time to sort this dent out. Any recommendations who could help with it? Around London area.

This Formula G thing looks a lot of fun, I'll be on the FB group by lunchtime and see if I can get involved next year - ace!
I imagine I'll be a little* off your times though!

Yeah BikeTuna it is really fun! Try it next year! Now we have 1 skuzzlecharged, 2 turboed and my NA mx5s. More is very welcome as we are quite competitive at it! atlex, please PM me the contacts! It is in London so it's really convenient for me. The LSD problemI think that the problem is not with the diff. It is Torsen LSD (I think it is Torsen II, not Fuji one, as my car is 2001). As you know it is gear driven diff, so there aren't any clutches or anything else which can wear out. And Torsen diffs can transfer torque to the outer wheel only if the inner wheel has traction. That means if you lift off inner wheel during cornering - you „loose“ your LSD and Torsen works as an open diff. I think this is the case for me. And in my opinion, the main problem is the suspension setup. I know that it is not corner weighted, one side is sitting a bit lower than another, also preload values probably is not on par on each corner. It is nothing major, to be honest. But now with increased grip, it seems that it is enough for me to lose inner wheel traction on sharp corners. So basically the first step is to get the suspension sorted, get corner weighting done and then see how it behaves. The next competition is only next year, so I'm in no rush.

LSD issue sounds reasonable, plenty of clutched diff option out there, would a welded diff be worth a test for this type of application?
I guess you could try disconnecting the rear anti roll bar to test the inside wheel theory, it should allow for more wheel droop.

Very good idea sandys ! I was thinking about it also. And it is super easy to try out! Another idea I had is to set right rear shock to softest and rear left shock to the hardest, so when turning right I wouldn't have a lot of weight transfer to outside and the inner wheel wouldn't be constrained by the damper. I need a skidpad somewhere to try these theories out!
