So I eventually got round to attempting to fit the fleabay Ali rad as recommended/used by Il Commendatore (yes you Horney ). Trouble is the new rad is a lot deeper (i.e, front to back ) than the standard one so the rear of the fan shroud fouls the ARB. So the questions are :- 1) how/where do you re-site the fans? 2) Whilst on the subject are both necessary and which does what? Any replies/comments appreciated. If you're into supercharging/turbo please also see my other post regarding Intercooler. TIA, Pewe

iirc some brackets are needed to get the the alloy rads to fit properly. Have you got some ?
fan shroud touching the ARB isn't too bad. the ARB moves a little but not much.
the UK/Jap drivers-side fan is not a cooling fan, it is an aircon one, I think. if you ditch the aircon you can ditch that too.
if you're really out of options.. slim-line fan kit.

Atlex, thanks for the quick reply. Ali rad slots quite happily into the original mounts. It's the welded-on mounts at the back of the rad which push the fans too far back, as well as the rad being double the thickness of the OE one of course. Aircon deleted by previous owner so at least one fan unnecessary. Will probably end up fitting a slim-line fan but the tight-wad in me says adapt the original whenever possible.... Cheers, Pewe.

I went slimline fan as I also moved my rad back and down for the over the top IC pipework.

I too have an over the rad intercooler setup and because that requires the rad to be lowered and leant back a slimline Spal or similar is the only option. I don't like mounting the fans through the fins though, so bought a fan shroud. This pushed the fans back on to the ARB. It's still there rubbing a little (but as said above, it hardly moves) so I plan to rotate the rad a little more by pushing the bottom forward. This should maintain the space I need for the IC pipework and give me the clearance from the ARB. Nothing's simple

Thanks for the replies, guys.
Interestingly I've just turned up a pic from ANOther forum and he's managed to use the existing fan by mounting it closer to the rad which looks as if it's vertical. Off to see if I can fabricate some brackets..... Don't hold your breath but I'll report back. At the same time I'll post my cunning plan/pics for over the top i/cooler routeing. Cheers, Pewe.
