took some black shoe polish to one of my door pockets.. the air fresheners seemed to lighten up the leather, but the shoe polish brought it back.. to black

Well, by some miracle, over the weekend I played with it and fixed it! I managed to get the DRE shift light wired in without breaking anything, sweeeet, and it worked first time I also managed to pull everything out of the boot and identify that I have a leak from the aerial hole but seemingly elsewhere as well - I'll start a thread on boot leaks, I think... On top of that, I managed to replace the auxiliary belt and not completely Canoe it up (Well, I hope... ) It now seems to have a high pitched whistle/whine that rises and falls in line with the revs - I can't work out if it's belts, pulleys or an air leak from the intake crossover pipe?? and I can't remember if it did it before... I think it did but quieter than it does now? I have also noticed a couple of chirrups/squeaks, so I think the belt needs tightening whatever happens. Could it just be whining because it's not tight enough? Looking at the water pump pulley it looks to be flat where the bolts are but very slightly out of true around the edge, so I guess I should replace that? I am scared, though - 10kg pressure to get 8mm of deflection on a new belt seems a LOT and while I think I'm not far off that using my not-very-well-calibrated-on-the-bathroom-scales finger, I don't want to keep tightening it when it's actually ok and then have something break catastrophically I need to get me one of those belt tension checker things - anyone have any links to good ones? The Mazda one and its part number is mentioned in that non-Haynes Miata manual, but I fear the cost... Sorry for all the noob questions

Took it out for a spin in a car park Nice to meet you albeit briefly, what with competing and helping my mum etc, didn't get much of a chance. would of liked to have sampled your car up close, see if I could convince myself that the BBR gear was enough of a bump for the dough to aid my sprinting efforts next year. Nice to meet you too I missed the boat on the Canoe Mayo otherwise I'd see you down there, I reckon sprinting is where the Super200 will be the most benefit. Having said that, I think that my extra power is the only reason I could even get as close as I did ... which was still not very close! Ah well .. next time

Technically this was last week.... So having acquired a new K&N cone filter (for free) I figured getting some cold air was a good idea. A very cheap replacement headlight cover off ebay, 2 cuts with an angle grinder, 1 fold later and some plastic removal I've got this No fitted pics as car is nearly 30 miles away and gets spanners on every couple of weeks. Planning on using some alu flex pipe to duct round edge of engine bay towards the filter. All in, less than a tenner š

Budget mods are awesome, you must be very happy with that! Yes. The thing that was most astonishing is the plastic bit on the end of the pipe where it attached to the AFM is the perfect fit for the MX5 despite from what he could remember the filter kit being designed for a pug 205

Rob - Well it did come from Jim D so perhaps it wasn't from a 205 after all. Had to trim down the tubing so thought that confirmed it wasn't originally planned for an MX5 but given the AFM fit that would explain a lot.

Muh Fresh Wats. Those octagonal centre caps don't fit by default but IMO look better than the other style, I had to use some foam tape to space'em out a few MM so they'd fit snug. The job was done by Spit and Polish.
