Well this my first post here, first off hello all. Maybe meet some of you at the Bracknell meet that I went to once, do need to do it again just I'm always working grr. Anyway my poor MX5 s-vt 2002 got rear ended Thursday last on the M3 slip road to M25, damage wise not look that bad. Sound wise it bent the chassis or the gear box is fulling out! I'm sort of sure the insurance company will right it off So I'm asking for tips on how to get money from them to replace it! I took a gamble really and got my MX5 S-VT 2002 for £1700 on ebay last MAY, some rust bubbles here and there. Clutch judder that I thought was engine mounts. Found out later it's a sign to the clutch. Anyway new clutch was top of the list new CAT back Exhaust and oil change on engine box and diff, apart from the standard service stuff like Cam belt plugs and so on done. MOT this year It failed on a broken front spring (just goes to show the 4x4 look to high for them lol) Anyway my big worry is now looking for one to replace the car I think I'm going to lose down to being hit up the back side. I'm the sort of guy even if you say you done this and that I'll just do it again like cam belts and oil changes, best not to take a risk and some of it not that hard to do. New cam belt what £50, If it goes new engine cost hmm. May of found a replacement car £2395 hmm it's good but got it bad points too One I really like is on NUTS site £2650, Good point he a member on there plus it comes with a hard top. Bad point it's well over 100 miles to look at it. Biggest question how am I going to push the insurance company to give me £2700 for my MX5? Some pic and links. This my MX5 S-VT when I got her: Not much change later apart from wheels that I have taken off and put the old ones back on: The M3 slip road to the M25 stuff: 1drv.ms/v/s!AkH4yNBnITDOg0sE7qn4ldVD_7m1You want to see what happens when you take on a hairdressers car? Well here the my MX5: And now two pics from the the rear cars: In sort don't mess with a hairdresser car 1 how do I replace her 2 how do i take on the insurance company for a good price to replace my lost. Ops almost the two replacement car links I'm looking at: www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=311522 this one I really like BUT DEVON! This one local to me really but in sort off ok condition for age I guess: www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201606225160680?search-target=usedcars&make=mazda&model=mx-5&price-from=500&radius=1500&searchcontext=default&sort=locasc&postcode=rg421ya&page=1&onesearchad=new%2Cnearlynew%2Cused&logcode=p&adPos=10

Long post for a single question!
I suppose provide the insurance with evidence of what it would cost to restore your position to pre-accident. Usually this means adverts and prices of similar specification and age to the one that was damaged.
But if you paid £1700, that's the market value and all you can realistically expect to see back.
Also a cambelt snap shouldn't require a new engine.

fwiw cambelts broken often do require new engines on other engines, but not these engines, at least, not standard engines

So you can break a Cam belt on a MX5 and it will be fine WOW what a car the MX5 is, guess it only weak spot the rust side of things :/ Just finding a ok MX5 for £1700 not easy there some real unloved ones out there Anyway thanks for the info and help, my fingers crossed for tomorrow

Yep rust is more of a worry than anything engine related. Good luck anyway, let us know the outcome.

Well about another 48hrs to see what they come back with. He did slip out the market price about £1900 to £2000, I said I looked at the market and the prices where all over the place. You never know and you could get a real find, but also there a lot of rust buckets out there too. Told Him what I liked and what I viewed. A MX5 146bhp for £2300 that was not a 146bhp 1.8, to be fair I not 100% sure. I just not like it lol. A black one that was a S-VT but 5 speed, well no proof it was one. But £2100 and from 20ft away I did not want to see no more really. Local dealer what had not a to bad S-VT 6 speed for £2395. And the one in Devon for £2650, poke poke what I really like.
I tried pointing out there a lot of MX5 out there and there almost as many different models to. Plus with over 3/4 of adds not saying the model it takes viewing or contact to find out. Just fingers crossed time

People get confused with the mk2.5
"s-vt" isn't a model of an MX-5 it's the sequential valve timing feature of the 1.8 engine used in the mk2.5 regardless of trim level, it's easy to spot as there are extra oil pipes on top of the engine and the cam cover is an odd shape
Every 1.8 MX-5 after 2001 was s-vt, has nothing to do with being the base model or the 6-speed Sport trim

Not really got a clue the more I look at MX5s the more I get lost in them, I think you can goto Mazda and say I want this that and can I have this but I don't want that sort of thing. S-VT does mean you get LSD but I looked at a 5 speed one, no proof it was a S-VT and then when your looking I think sellers just put BHP on what they find. I saw an add today saying 144bhp, now I thought it was 1.8 130bhp 140bhp or 143bhp or 146bhp. As said I'm getting lost in it all lol.
Anyway took the insurance offer for my one 2k in the end, guess I did ok as I paid £1700 over a year ago for mine. Found a 2004 S-VT on ebay for £1995, but it ends Friday so I may miss out on that one. It's got some bubble rust and sills been done. I told them to sell it if there happy on offers they get, they can't wait for me really. But if it not sell then I'll be there next week for it, they got my number. Plus there may get away from Ebay charge for selling.
Anyway will update when I get a new one, well an old one but new to me MX5 lol

Well picked this up today: 78000 miles on her, sills done last year and a little bubble rust on front driver wheel arch and a little more on the rear one. Not sure of the best way to take out bubble rust really any tip guides welcome Changed the wheels over from what I bought for my old one in April this year and placed the chrome roll bar on her. Fingers crossed I can sort this one out before someone thinks it's a good Idea to right it off. Next on the list of the old one was lowing it but now I'm back to replacing the exhaust again, just hate the no life sound of the standard engine. Had a sportex exhaust on the last one and it just gave it the nice little rip sound in the revs, nothing loud with bass notes humming when your just going along. How did it go with the insurance company. Well in the end they offered me £2098 for my old one that got CAT C, I bought her back for £160 and sold her on as a mate wanted her for drifting. But now he thinking of using her as a day car, so if anyone got a boot and rear bumper maybe a boot lock in silver for sale let me know and I'll let him know. Anyway sold the old one for £400 to him insurance pay out £1930 so in sort I got £2330 great, but was it really? The looking around, DAYS spent looking at adds. viewed a few local/ish to me, lets say 100 miles covered in viewing cars. found the one above on ebay that did not sell the add ended before I had the money, So I took a risk and took there word for almost everything. And said if it not sell I'll give you £1900 for her and pick it up on Wednesday, well today and that all happened as you can see. So take the cost in looking around and then take in I had to pay £150 to cancel the old car insurance policy and then insure the new one. But hey I've got an MX5 again so I'm happy

Ops I knew I missed something out, the roof on the new car got a real small pin hole! So it going to need a new one, stranger question really. The soft top on it seems lighter or is that softer to touch, so I was wondering if it been replaced before. Or was there a little change in the roof side of things in the later models, it may of just been the hot weather not got a clue.
But it will need a quick patch up and then a new one asap really. So how do I patch it up sort term and whats the best way to replace it

Later models got a mohair roof as opposed to the plastic vinyl earlier type.

Right wet suit repair kit on it's way with neoprene glue I have a new question sorry. The chrome mirrors on it, I did sort of think maybe they was standard or a little upgrade when buying the car new. It's just when I was looking I saw more than two others with them on. But later looking at them, I'm thinking they was suck on, to cover the damage on the driver side mirror. I guess a pic or two the best to see what I'm talking about. This the good mirror passage side: Now driver side you should be able to the damage: I'm sure there covers when I got it I thought they came with the car, also did not spot the mirror damage in till driving home with her. I was still happy but then I started to not like the to much bling thing and in what make the mirrors look bigger. Do I rip them covers off and maybe buy a new drivers side mirror? Not really sure what I would be walking into by just ripping them off, as all so not 100% sure there add on. Not sure best ask the MX5 lovers in here
