13. TLC
It's been a while - Lots of progress made, mostly small bits that take time. I've stripped the MK2 rack back and cleaned it up, it was caked in years of grime. Decided to keep the rack powered for the time being for personal preference.
- 5mm Rack spacers - New Track rods and ends - Polyurethane rack mounts. During the process, I found out that you need the lower column (From the rack to the UJ by the pedals) to make the mk2 rack fit into a mk1. Took this as an opportunity to clean and paint almost everything in sight. Cleaned and painted all PAS Hardlines. Really happy with how it's coming along and it gives such a sense of achievement when it all starts to go together.
Painting of alternator pulley & ISC Valve
Wrinkle paint on the intake mani
Whilst so many bits were out, I cleaned as much as I could - All the legs, bulk head, removed parts etc.
I've got some silicone hoses that need installing - Just waiting on some good quality hose clamps. I also wrapped the injector and front looms with proper fabric loom tape, it looks so much better than old electrical tape. With most bits now installed and all clean, painted or both, it is really starting to look how I want it to - Really excited to get this finished. I've got a few more bits to go in, and some underside/suspension bits that are going to be sand blasted ready for paint. Once they're back it will be ready for new bearings and Poly bushes. I'll keep you updated Until next time, Crumpets

14. End of an era.It breaks my heart typing this, but the industrial estate that my workshop was at caught alight last week, causing all units to become ablaze. It went up so fast that I didn't have chance to rescue anything, My 5, all parts I was building up for the turbo build and every tool I've bought since I was 15 including my tool box are gone. I'm gutted.More info hereLooks like it's the end to that build. - A very sad Crumpets

not good is there any chance of insurance cover? (possibly from the cause of the fire?) Rich. The unit I was renting with friends didn't have any form of business insurance as we were just a bunch of inthusiasts that didn't use it for commercial use. My car wasn't insured as it was off the road being worked on, you never expect it to happen until it does. Total loss I'm afraid. Been car shopping this weekend, I've bought another 5. Going to get it how I want and possibly start another thread. As much as it pains me to start again, I need to in order to move on

Nooooooo I'm sorry to hear that It could be worth checking the small print on your home insurance policy, just in case things are covered when in storage or a garage, but it might well not cover something like an industrial unit even if it does mention something about it

Hey Zed. . They think it could have links to arson, but nothing it confirmed yet. It started in another unit, this site has had over 2000+ units I've bought another NA Eunos, this time an 1800. I have a strong inclination that it's a S-Special, It's got all the bits but nothing on paper and the previous owner didn't know either. I will be getting it to a level where I like it, and then probably start a new thread as for me it's a new chapter and a new start. Progress will be slow as I need to buy all new tools also. I'll keep you all updated & thank you all for your kind words of support. - Crumpets

What an absolute disaster, glad you are already getting back on your feet though.
If it is arson then is there any possibility of claiming against the insurance of the unit it was started in? I would have thought unlikely as its not their property, but might be worth a phone call

I would have thought unlikely as its not their property, but might be worth a phone call Thank you @biketuna - Its the only way I know. I'm going to try and make a claim on the source's insurance first, and if no luck I'll try on my home insurance. I'm in very low hopes of anything sticking or paying out though.

I rent a council owned industrial unit locally that I work part-time from, I dread this happening I cannot trust the people in surrounding units to act safely... sad but true! I keep 6 extinguishers (4 co2 & 2 aff) in there and it's a 'token' against a fire I have 2 vehicles in there long term & space to work on another but I keep a bare-minimum of tooling there as I also work 'mobile' so welding sets etc. are in my garage at home (hopefully covered by home insurance? as getting contents insurance for my unit is a nightmare ) anyway, good luck chasing the cause & theit insurance Rich.

I think its every petrolheads worst nightmare. We've always taken fire safety very seriously there, there were an abundance of fire extinguishers as well as fire hoses from the main water source on reels - Left over from when it was a factory. These were tested and worked, and always on hand for when we ever did any first start-ups where fuel lines or injectors had been played with etc. By the time it hit our unit it was already out of control - and the smoke was so bad that you couldn't breathe. So no hoses or fire extinguishers could do anything. There were bottles of gas exploding everywhere, it was very scary and somewhat apocalyptic. A few of the chaps from the workshop tried to rescue bits from everyone's area, and managed to get two cars out but by the time they went in and out a few times the smoke levels were dangerous. The design of the building meant that the smoke and flames engulfed us from underneath as we were on a raised floor, soon after the steel beams that held the roof up bent and it all came down - I'll try to get some pics up at some point. As sad as it sounds, my main focus is on building my tool collection and working on the new 5 - I'd rather live in the present than chase the past. And although i will chase insurers, i highly doubt anything will stick. Crumpets
