Anyone with an MX5 who's not done an auto solo needs to get involved, if anyone ever fancies a long weekend on the isle of wight for one let me know as I'm the club secretary for our local car club.
Tyres are good, I was a bit worried about their suitability for short events like this but they came back with heat in them and it was a pretty cold day! I'm yet to try them out in the wet but I'm sure this weekend will enable me to try some wet weather driving in it.

Got some time on the car yesterday and fitted a new Torsen with a 3.6 Final drive, which has made all my gears a little bit longer and is really noticeable once you get above 2nd gear, very happy indeed! Also chucked some Superpro Void fillers in at the same time which has made everything feel a little more tight at the back end and has improved the the feel of the clutch too! Picture for attention... Also had a go at making a retro style centre console carpet thing-a-ma-jig, just used the carpet that would go above the fuel tank. When I bought the car it came with a Trap 1002 console which lends its self to this type of configuration, together with the Jass "classic" shifter I bought for a first stab I'm really happy with the results! Exterior wise I've been perfecting the fitment of the arches for paint, there was a little scrubbing on the rear so they needed a little adjustment, I think I'm almost there. Also fitted some Aerocatch bonnet pins, which are a lovely product, was a bit daunting slicing up the GV bonnet, but took my time and it paid off! Now need to get everything painted which I'm hoping to do in the next few weeks! Was tempted to go satin black with the bonnet as I really like the contrast, but think for now I'll put it white as will look much cleaner. Next up will be to fit a new fuel pump as the walbro that's in there now makes some funny noises every so often and is bloody noisy so i'm sticking a R35 pump in and re wiring it directly to the battery so it can see as much voltage as possible, then get the passenger seat installed and fit an oil catch tank I've bought.

Love this mate. I've spent the day grazing my knuckles working on mine and reading this sort of thing really makes me want to go and work on it some more in the dark Is there a calendar for the autosolo events? I wouldn't mind coming to watch... I'm in Portsmouth and don't need an excuse to get over to The Island

Haha cheers dude I had a right battle a few weeks ago with a coolant re route spacer on the back of the block so glad I'm spuring people on!
Check the Isle of Wight car club out in Facebook or iowcc.co.uk, our next event is 24th April and is a damn good event to both compete and watch at!

Been loving the longer gears over the past few days. Cars very quiet with the Hayward and Scott system on it, so In the name of weight reduction I've just removed the back box all together and it's perfect, there is a large centre silencer so still sociable, but sounds like it looks now! Needs some hangers welding on and I'm going to get some slightly larger diameter pipe to finish it off, but really happy!

Picked up a set of AWR engine mounts to help reduce the amount of rock from the engine and improve the feel between gears I've had IL Motorsport mounts in the past and the difference was pretty minial so figured I'd give them a try! Initial impressions are you would not want this in a daily driver, the NVH is pretty extreme on idle but once you get going its better. Its certainly going to make the front end alot tighter, throttle response is distinctively better as is the feel of the clutch!

Not sure on if the bgw works for me but the paint work looks stunning.
Loving this thread though.

Looks really nice as always. Quite like the BGW, which is uncommon for me, especially on the slightly stumpier mounts! I am sure I read somewhere that running a BGW properly on track has led a few people in the persuit of frontal aero due to an imbalance, sure it will work wonders if thats the case... bar potential understeer

Thanks Chaps. I'm undecided too tbh, where its so wide it needs to be higher to fill the space correctly so keen to get the risers on!
I'm planning to get some sort of under tray / LiP action on the go soon, I did toy with canards but after a basic mock up with card decided it looks a bit daft and would be a magnet for cones at the autotests too!

Absolutely love this car, everything is just so spot on. Wing does need to be higher up so I'm looking forward to seeing the spacers on!
Are those engine mounts readily available or were they a rare find?

Thanks Fellas, The mounts are made by 949 Racing in the states, readily available but just need importing.

This is one of very few cars where I feel a wing works well. I think it looks better at a lower height than most the wings you see on MX5's these days. Bonnet is awesome, need one in my life!
