hi ..i am in need of some advice re the fitting of GAZ coilovers on my nc . ok, i have picked up some s/h GAZ coilovers , main reason is to lower the car , not to track it , its just a sunday toy really. so i intend to fit these myself then have the alignment set up by a "specialist". having made a couple of calls to well known "specialists" in my area , the first one quoted for full alignment, ie, camber ,caster, toe, etc and set ride height. this sounded good to me. in the second call , the chap was going on about corner weighting too , pushing the price to double the first quote. my question is .........how far should i go with this , do i NEED corner weights , would i be able to tell, is it worth it , or is the first quote ok for my requirements , as i say its just a fair weather toy. any help , advice welcome... thanks

Don’t bother with corner weighting on a road car. A bit over kill. It’s basicly setting the ride height at each corner so that the centre of gravity of perfect in every dimension with the weight of the driver in the seat.

Yes. You need to do up the front bushes once the car is loaded. It’ll ride high at the front and twist the bushes otherwise.

horney , is this do-able without a ramp? if not i could mention it to chap doing alignment , he seemed quite helpful, he could possibly do that for me ........?

It is doable without a lift, but you'll find it 10x easier with one. I had my springs & dampers off my Mk3 with the aid of a 2-post lift. You'll find that releasing those tricky bolts is easier. Depending on ride height, you may also need a bar to pull down the lower arms/wishbone to get the bottom bolts in. Not too much of a problem if you're lowering considerably though. My only other comment is that getting to the rear left topmount is a bit of a pain. You've got to remove the shield over the fuel filler neck, and you'll need a decent combination of extension/u-joint to get in there.
