another tangent time, I've read about using modified Mr2 rear drive-flanges in the Mx5 rear hubs so as I'm a fiddler thats easily sidetracked it was time to get some bought & then modified...
2000 - 2005 Mr2 rear drive-flanges have same spline size and journal for the wheelbearing to fit AND thicker flanges (always a good idea - I've suffered a snapped halfshaft and the car was totalled!) but need some simple machining to fit the Mazda hubs.
more info to follow...

been quiet on this lately - busy collecting Eunos-tokens so, more bits have arrived, bearings for the Lsd, DW200 fuel pump & E85 resistant fuel hose (for the connection inside the fuel tank) and theres a Stack ST3365 fuel level gauge on it's way hopefully this will be more than I need to feed the engine... slightly different size & noticeabally heavier than standard now to build / assemble it onto the sender unit. in other news, might have ordered a tubular front subframe from Crapengineering...... With engine mounts to suit an XE? no, I'll fabricate my own as they'll be car specific - probably go chassis-mount anyway... another tangent time, I've read about using modified Mr2 rear drive-flanges in the Mx5 rear hubs so as I'm a fiddler thats easily sidetracked it was time to get some bought & then modified... 2000 - 2005 Mr2 rear drive-flanges have same spline size and journal for the wheelbearing to fit AND thicker flanges (always a good idea - I've suffered a snapped halfshaft and the car was totalled!) but need some simple machining to fit the Mazda hubs. more info to follow... more faffin... dummy-build of the pump on a spare sender unit (unknown sender so sacrificial) pressure-feed & return plumbed with E85 resistant hose, the return will 'dump' at the bottom of the tank to hopefully not aeriate the fuel tempoary cable-ties just to visualise, since I've used ATL (6AN) tank / bulkhead fittings theres no solid steel pipe connecting the sender unit's lid / frame with the pump via a short hose so I'll have to consider some method of locating the pump - it's sorta loose in it's rubber mount I think fittment with a standard sender unit would be easy & without issue. the 'outside' fittings, now theres safe & strong fuel-hose connections. thinking ptfe fuel lines as they don't 'sweat' like conventional braided rubber, petrol was always something you'd smell in rubber-hose plumbed competition cars more to follow. I've been looking for a Stack fuel level gauge to match the others I've bought, naturally I was looking for sensibally priced not new so this was on the backburner.... ebay came up trumps so a used white-faced Stack ST3365 gauge was bought and delivered www.autometer.com/2-1-16-fuel-level-programmable-0-280-stack-wht.htmlthese have custom calibration options and hopefully can work with Mazda's Yazaki sender resistor. www.autometer.com/pub/media/manual/2650-1290.pdfso, I had to play. one small 12v battery, a sender, some reading and.... so it works Now I'm looking for a pwm type Led dimmer as these gauges are a little bright Autometer / Stack make one but it's ~£40 and only controls 6 gauges (& I have 7 so far and possibly a few more if I get theit matching Wideband 02 gauge) more ott faffin to follow. something I've been looking into is a quick-release steeringwheel hub, many benefits of these include security & ease of access / egress, I had a cheap generic type in the workshop but was not unsure on it so bit the bullet & bought a known-quantity (& Quality?) hub. Racetech RTQNY Quick Release Coupling race.parts/Catalogue/Steering/Steering-Wheel-Quick-Release-Couplings/Racetech-Quick-Release-Couplings/Special-Racetech-Quick-Release-Couplingsthis type bolts onto a Momo/Sparco etc. boss (saves welding the splined 'slug' onto the column) and also acts as a spacer (handy), this type is also FIA & MSAUK approved for motorsport so a quality item next to find a solid steeringwheel boss to mount the Corsa column then bolt this Racetech qr onto as I'm unsure of the oem Mazda / momo colapsable boss with the extra length & in competition use Rich.

update (& because I've found some photo's ) the Mr2 rear flanges as delivered. slightly stronger design (but heavier!) than Mx5 items, these need machining to fit the 5 but this is an easy lathe operation so nothing taxing this is one of the many jobs on the rapidly lengthening 'to do' list.... Hello, I'm Zed and I have a problem..... and its in 50 shades of silver (on a good day!) also.... just bought another tachometer a secondhand Stack ST400 (8krpm) recording tacometer with programable shiftlight (has paint / overspray covering so needing a clean) www.autometer.com/media/manual/2650-1752.pdfinterestingly this has a '909' part (Finis) number so a Ford Motorsport item (it's from an Escort Cosworth rallycar!) so now theres more re-wiring of the dash-cluster. NEXT. Rich.

no real progress but more pieces of the puzzle are here.... the Racetech QR hub has arived, its a solid item and will add 58mm to the solumn so a usefull extender. the connection is via a splined stem with a 'master-spline' for repeatable 'foreward' positioning of the wheel, when connected theres an audiable 'click' to announce this. I had considered buying the (cheaper) 'weld-on' spline section but this allows length adjustment as spacers can be added between the qr & steering column's boss. been playing with the LSD, decisions on what ramp-setup to use as there was the choice of 30/90* or 45/45* - photo shows assembly as 45/45* (was delivered as the 30/90* easier to drive option) pressed bearings on the diff unit, this was done with the LSD stripped so no possibility of distorting the case or endplate. bearing fitted, used an old bearing 'inner' race as spacer and a smear of grease on the sholder as witness to show it was pressed fully home (grease visable lower right of bearing / diff) the Stack ST400 revcounter has landed, it's a little scruffy but I'll let that go as I've bought a ~£500 gauge for 1/5th of it's new price this typically didn't come with it's wiring-plug or switches / shiftlight so I'm hunting for replacements will test it tomorrow... I'm full-speed on the Landrover's 200tdi engine conversion and rear axle replacement on our B3 Passat (all weather dependant!) so no time actually on the Eunos Rich.

more fiddlin.... was doing some other work and needed to tidy the workbench - tripped over the Mr2 drive-flanges so thought it time to compare with Mx5 flanges... pressed the studs from the Mr2 flanges & tried against an Mx5 flange. closer view, the Mk2 Escort RS2000 type extended wheelstuds are handy for this. the Mr2 flanges require some machining to match Mazda's dimensions but nothing hard. this photo shows the difference between flanges, the Mazda item is thinner and hopefully the Mr2 item is stronger next to order more RS200 type extended wheelstuds, Mx5 rear wheelbearings (again) and get machining... subject of hubs, I'd sandblasted & painted the uprights but the paint has allowed some rust to break through so I'm tempted to send them off for electro-plating, thinking yellow zinc along with the front uprights & maybe subframes Rich.

more thoughts re. rear hubs / flanges / diss & calipers... back onto the Hispec / Ginetta rear 2 piston calipers.... tried a 'half' on a mk2 sport disc with a pad in place to space... looks like a viable option... the rear pasd are from a Mitsubishi Evo 6/7/8 so plento of options available. radial-mount calipers and what looks to be an easy mount-bracket to fabricate. these calipers have 38mm pistons so suitable for rear use and parts are readily available from Hispec's website so I'm going to ditch the standard Mazda sliding-calipers with their tiny? expensive pads to use these lightwieght (~850g) beauties. I'm also tempted on Hispec's 'Spot' (handbrake / parking) calipers but these would need bracketry fabricating & welding to the uprights although this would be no problem... never enough time BUT too many ideas / distractions / dreams.... Rich.
