I have now epoxied some bits of plastic tube to the sawn off stubs of the screw mounts on the top pad of the door cards and dribbled some more epoxy down the insides of the tubes... I intent to let that set up, then drill pilot holes which the screws should be able to chase.
Maybe it works, maybe I stay racecar for ever... in any case should it all go wrong I bought a BRAND NEW ZERO MILES EUNOS ROADSTER!

I am wondering what to wire my reflector conversions into... sidelights? their own switch? White reflectors with orange bulbs.
I have drilled out those epoxied posts and will see how they retain the door cards tomorrow.
I've got the front reflectors done but still the rears to do.

Not a terrible amount to report but really just for my memory of events: A day or so back I got to fiddling with the intermittent alpine door speaker in the passenger door, I pulled it out, sanded the rust off the terminals and stuck some foam round the back edge where it meets the door, hammered it back in and it doesn't crackle now, which is nice. I stuck a load of mass loaded vinyl or bitument or whatever it is... metal backed tacky crap which weighs a tonne... over as many holes in the inner door skin as I could. The only significant one eluding me is the one where all the door lock rods go through, I couldn't achieve correct penetrations in the panel to get the hole covered and the rods happy enough to door correctly. There's no significant audio fail any more and a smidge more mid. Other than that, I've just been driving it around, doing the odd skid to make sure it still leaves two lines behind it and stopping porsche drivers leaving me for dust. It's AMAZING how much fun these things are, and an hour and a half of throwing it at roundabouts has only eaten an 8th of a tank of fuel, unlike my motorbike Oh and I threw some of that red fluid for the cleaning of the pipes in, so it's got 50 more horsepower atm. I found a silly aeroplane and the car wanted a selfie so here it is:

So seems I'd not admitted anywhere that I had a screaming belt. Alternator side, as evidenced by screaming on startup, but settling down; but recently turning on the lights and the heater made it completely horrible. I used this guide cracking the lower bolt with a breaker bar, the top bolt with the release of blood from the side of my index finger, wiggling the adjuster with a socket and then winding it all back together till it went creak. The belt still deflects a *bit* when you press on it with a finger, but the screamy noises are completely gone away, even with full heater and all lights on. Place bets now for when the belt snaps!

Mine does the same, but haven't tried it with lights and heater to see if comes back. For now it's just the embarrassing squeal on startup. Prompted by your post I just went and checked, but there seems very little play in the belt, just how tight is it meant to be? So I did a google and came up with this page, www.ibtinc.com/how-to-tension-a-v-belt/ and just happen to have a pencil gauge (for checking fire door opening resistance), so if I can make some sense of the table that's linked in the article I might be better informed. Thanks for the nudge to get it sorted!

Dunno, hence the wager on when it snaps; on the assumption it's now too tight. I just went at it till it seemed 'probably ok'. I've done a few tens of miles on it since and it seems fine.

Sanded the crap out of this (by which I mean I showed it a bit of wet and dry for 5 mins) And then rattle canned it Then whilst all the dust in the garage got on with sticking to it, I splished a bit of dinitrol on the sanded down rusty bits on the other one. I'll try and rig up some kind of rudimentary paint hole to keep clean, block back the base coat on that first one to get some of the crap out of it and splash a bit of clear on to see what happens. It's all learning, right?

Smashed on two coats of lacquer after sanding it some with some 2000 grit. Didn't really wait remotely long enough for it to dry, threw it at the car where it can dry and harden according to fate. I shall have to get more paint wipe things from that crap car shop, because getting the oils and dust off is a bugger. I need some of these tack cloth things I imagine. Anyway that's one side rust free and a nice blue for now... makes the bonnet look tragically faded in the sun, which it is, but the colour match looks really really good. I'll need to get some of this colour in non-rattle can format and have a go at the whole bonnet with a paint gun since it's a bit stone chipped and could be so much more lush. I don't think it'd be much fun trying to get good consistent coverage on that size of panel with a can.

Bought some cheap ramps, the plan is to give me the confidence to get under the thing more often so I can change out the engine, trans and diff oil, because I don't trust any of them. Of course it's bucketing rain and admittedly I have no fluids to hand. Otoh having had the drain down the side of the garage flushed; at least the rain is going away down the garden more properly.

Sanded down the second headlight lid and emptied the last of my primer onto it, always running out of stuff lately. Let it sit for a bit then dusted a guide coat of black on just to see how that kind of game works. I'll wet sand it tomorrow and then colour it in hopefully. The poor car is drenched with just a plastic bag keeping the worst off the exposed headlight.

Is the frequency of my utterly mundane updates annoying anyone? This is kind of dissolving into my blog and I'm mostly posting to keep a timeline I can look back on. Today I did some laundry and half the washin... no, well I did, but what of cars?! I painted the other headlight lid, conveniently running out of paint, so it's got about 1.5 layers of blue, rear canoe biscuits. I went for a water seal and smashed loads of clear on it and left the dust to stick to it. No photos because meh, it's like the other one but not as good. With the help of a chum I bunged it up on ramps where it will stay till the gearbox and sump both have tasty fresh oil in them. Obv the other end has to go up to do the diff. Also by the time I got that picture I've seemingly put the mismatched winter hat on it as well, I only took one gouge out of the paint doing that on my own which was moderately positive. I assumed I'd make more of a mess. 50% winter, 50% hoping next door's cat will decide it's not a bed.
Since the bumper needed to come off to make it on the ramps I started throwing magic paint at some of the worst browns.
And although I spent about half an hour on it, two of the bolts holding that baby tooth in will turn (but not come out) and the third won't talk to me, so I may yet cut that out :/
Sat down for a brew and MY cat is demanding a long cuddle so she's getting her way.

So halps?! I'm trying to work out how to get the defrost on my hardtop to work because I like plugging things in and stuff working and also Scotland! but I can't work out what connectors I've got, here's them dangling out: Do I need a blue rocker type switch or a white push pull type? Or is my car mental and doesn't have the right bits at all?

Oh nice, thanks. So that could be the right hand of the three then. I can't find any trace of a tail on the parcel shelf and i believe my chassis to be a 89 or a 90 so I wouldn't expect one I wonder if my dash is original :/ I'll go check some wiring diagrams.

Socks up, Cat, you can do this. Now, Like a chump I have failed to order a new washer, but I think I'm just going to wing it, it's not like it's leaking now and get this: I reached into the engine bay and twisted the oil filter... it moved in my hand... holy days, there's not going to be any miserable extraction needed!
I will need to buy a bigger spanner before I approach the gearbox and diff however.
