well, oil change went fantastically, although I reused the scunnered washer, but it seems to be holding fine. The drain plug is refreshed with a shiny new one and the oil filter change was trivial.
On to a new day and a new oil. I went and bought myself a 24mm spanner and set to. I got the fill plug out of the gearbox without too much sweating and it burped some fluid, presumably because filled cold and parked hot. but can I get the 24mm guy to even squeak..? Can I kayak. I was so squee that I'd managed to jury rig a pump to get the oil in the fill hole with a soap dispenser nozzle and some bits of tube but oil out is not happening. Grumpy grump grump. I'm going to have to get a man with a garage to do this aren't I?
Or do I got get a 24 mm socket and wave my breaker bar at it? I'm rather nervous that it's done UP that tight.
Oh well, I'm getting better at getting the car up and down my wee ramps.

I still havent ever had a leak from not replacing the washer. I think I've changed it once or twice since 2008.

Well, a wee blast this morning to get it all hot, a partially melted glove, and the gearbox oil is OUT! MAXIMUM JEOPARDY! There was a GOOD fuzz on the magnetic plug which is 'reassuring' and I'm just giving it a while to fully drain before I pluck up the courage to see what kind of chunks, teeth and various balloon animals may have fallen into the bucket (hmm, I hope that hasn't melted)
I'll make a brew and then nip it up and find out if my home built 'hand soap dispensor' oil pump is up to filling the gear box. Eeep.

Didn't look like many chunks in the bucket, and the 'pump' worked just great... if only I'd bought enough oil... whoops. A learning day. Got some more on order and I'll whack that in as soon as it shows up. Just means my car is stuck in the least practical place ever for a couple of days.

I. Never. Want. To. Change. My. Gear. Box. Oil. Again.
My back's in a minor spasm, my wrists ache and I've made no small mess.
I'd say the job was utterly thankless but i have to admit it changes gear much much more sweetly than it did.
Nothing quite like the spirited thrash to check it's all ok, with the smell of the residue burning away as you realise you've left your fire extinguisher in the garage.
If I ever do that again myself, it will be on a four post lift.

Dunno if I can find anyone round here who will actually touch my alignment issues, now I've got daft bouncy bits on. Still, my diff oil is in the drop shop and I've just ordered some sump washers and a fuel filter so another weekend sweating under the rear bumper and I could be dyno ready. Shiiiiiiiiiit. Blown engine time, lol.

Tried to wire up the 16amp socket on the chinese tig welder and failed because I can't be rear canoed going to get the wire cutters I'd need to do it properly. Also should have got mig anyway because trying to tig up my sills will be a fools game, but I can always buy one more welder I've understood a tiny bit more about how to connect my gas supply as well, and also had a dishwasher installed in the house, so I feel like I am at least back in the 21st century \o/ Ordered a curry so there's some nice manky plates to test it on.

and also had a PARTSwasher installed in the house You MIGHT find that a cylinder block or head as well as a wheel can be cleansed nicely in the average 'PARTSwasher' & as to wire-strippers, I use a bare 'stanley' blade for all my loom duties, rarely hold the wrong edge Rich.

This is the one unfortunate time that my womanhood DOES come to the fore and i can't countenance sticking car bits in there. But it was in one of the texts I sent to my other half today, so don't think it wasn't instantly in my mind as 'the thing to do'. holding this line just means licence to buy a really big ultrasonic bath.

Charged the battery some. I'm kind of hoping to get it on a four post lift tomorrow and change the fuel filter and diff oil. Perhaps that'll happen, perhaps not.
If it does, I'll have no more excuses but to book a dyno.
I also picked up an Argon cylinder and regulator for the wee welder and failed to figure out how to get a hose onto the stupid barb on its rear canoe. I have almost all the bits to make it work but it still feels like an infinite amount of canoeing to do before i can actually strike an arc. Bleh bleh winter cold suck, can't drive the car anyway because winter. Sulk.
