Hi everyone! I used to have quite a few mx5, you can check out my last one over here. Then I ventured to try out a Honda s2000 which was an awesome car just I was a little bit unlucky with it. And now I’m back with a bigger (not really, it is still small one) and better mx5! This one is a good un’ as they say - 2004 MP62 supercharged SV-T! And on top of that it is RED - the fastest colour out there (after yellow of course..) It is heavily modified and the spec is quite long, but here are the main bits: I think it is MOSS supercharger kit for a MP62 supercharger. It has 6 rib pulley conversion, trackdog racing belt tensioner and brand new Magnuson MP62 supercharger from the states. Hydra Nemesis 2.7 ECU - never heard about this one before as it is again sold and used mainly in the states. Apparently, they are quite good. Black Diamond grooved discs with Carbotech XP 8 pads all round. Squeaky bastards.. Braided brake line kit with ATE super racing brake fluid. (super racing! Yeah, sure.. ) Beatrush Diff to PPF brace Superpro Diff void fillers HSD Mono Pro coilovers All suspension bushes replaced with Powerflex Black series. FM ARB’s front and rear Tein front strut brace FM Oil Cooler Kit FM Level 1 Clutch and lightened flywheel TDR Air-to-Air Intercooler TDR High-performance twin fan rad 3" custom exhaust system by Hayward Scott TDR oil pressure sender kit - Finally I can have a working pressure gauge in OEM position - brilliant! Mostly it is going to be used in autosolos, gymkhanas and some trackdays - lots of track action. I have some nice plans for this one and I will try to document here as much as possible. I don't have lots of pictures of it.. I will fix that later on

Lovely car (although I might be biased as I also have a forced induction mk2.5 in the fastest colour), looking at your spec, someone has spent a lot of money which is always nice. It looks like you're the sort of guy to make the most of it too.
As you have experience of MX5s previously, whats your take on the diff/PPF brace and diff void fillers?
Edited to add: I also got my oil pressure gauge working (by fitting the sensor and gauge from a mk1). I was insanely happy at achieving this, especially as my turbo oil return and oil cooler make it even more of a challenge, much to the bemusement of my wife and friends.
Cheers
Ben

Thanks guys. Yes, quite a lot has been spent on this. There is a saying "Fast, cheap, reliable - pick two", so my thinking was on fast and reliable when buying this Feels fast, we will see how reliable it is. Howard, I would love to try a sprint or a hillclimb. Who knows, maybe next year! Ben, sorry but I can't provide any relevant feedback on that additional diff bracing, as I have some issues with rear suspension/transmision/diff I need to solve first. When starting to move the car is jolting quite a bit, especially if I'm not careful with the clutch. Nothing major, but it would be nice to get rid of it.

Perhaps this is on account of the diff brace? I've heard they increase NVH levels. Is this what you're experiencing? Im thinking I might pop some void fillers in, as these always seem to get good feedback.

INTERIOR IMPROVEMENTS - NARDI STEERING WHEEL
The first mod is done - Nardi Deepcorn is fitted! I had a small problem with it though.. I’ve bought a HKB steering boss for mk1 as I thought they are the same, but for my surprise, they aren’t! The difference is with indicators release forks. They are a bit wider on mk2.5 than on mk1. I took my Dremel to work and made it a bit wider. In the end, everything did fit nicely The only thing left to do is to figure how to make a horn contact less noisy, as the metal piece I made scrapes against the back of the hub (sorry no photos of it) and makes unpleasant noise. Using copper grease improved it, but it’s not 100% silent yet. The next step would be to fit my JK composites bucket seat and mx5 will be a much nicer place to be in! INTERIOR IMPROVEMENTS - NEW HEAD UNITOh, and the sharp-eyed of you will notice that I’ve changed my head unit. Now I can listen to my tunes via Bluetooth - lovely! The standard Bose sound system is very good so I’m not planning on changing the speakers anytime soon.

FIRST ACTION - BRANDS HATCH SHAKEDOWN
I went to Brands Hatch autosolo together with the guys from this forum, what a great time we had! The track was soaked as it was raining all day and my tyres weren't up to par... It was so bad, that it was easier and more fun just to drift it everywhere instead of trying to get any good times in. Good first shakedown though!
I've put together a video of the day. I hope you'll enjoy it.

So I've done some updates to my mx5.
REFLECTORS
I really dislike the smoked reflectors the car came with, so I've swapped them over for an orange ones. If anyone want a full set of smoked ones - let me know. Before After COMPRESSION TEST
I think it is good idea to check how healthy the engine is before the start of the season, so I will have a base figure I can check back on. Fortunately for me all four cylinders have the same compression - around 190psi. On the first stroke all of them got around 100-110 psi. Not new, but I think it will be good enough SPARK PLUGSWhen checking compression I've noticed that the heat range of spark plugs is 8. I can see some deposits on the spark plug, so I will change them to NGK heat range 7. I think it should be better, as my car is not boosted that much.
IMPROVING THE OFFICE
I'm 6'2 so the oroginal sitting position is less than ideal for me. First step was to fit my Nardi Deepcorn 350mm wheel. What a transformation that was! Next I've fitted JK composites seat on standard rails. I thought I will try it out before ordering skidnation mounts. The seat is very good. Everyone who sees it say it should be very uncomfortable, but it is not! I've spend 5 hours in it on one day - no complaints. Padding and correct tilting helps! So far so good - the height of the seat is OK. Would like to try a bit lower position, but as this didn't cost me anything and I still have the adjustability of the rails - I'm not sure if I buy fixed mounts anytime soon.
FINECUT SHIFTER
This one is amazing - I've fitted FineCut shifter. When fitting it I've also fit a new plastic OEM bushing, so I don't know how much of an impact it had, but.. The shifting feeling is amazing! Sooo good now, very happy! The only problem is that it intoroduces additional buzzing noises into the cabin. I bet when you going on a track, you won't notice it at all, but on motorways it can be a bit annoying. I will look into it, maybe there is a way to reduce it, as if I remove the knob - the buzzing noise is minimized to almost nothing. In the end - it is definitely worth it and highly recommended!

used to quieten jose-jointed gearsticks on rallycars by fitting a suitably sized steering rack gaiter (usually cut-down) definately cut down on the buzzing Rich.
