I've got one subtle thing to add to that list above.. and it's a bit of an intangible one. Call it spiritual.
I'm a big fan of the feel of the MX5. And for me, if you can retain the PPF, you retain the thing that separates the Mazda (MX, RX, etc) platform any other driving experience.

Option 8 ... LFX ... that's where I'd head given no budget limits, the standard drive train will handle it in standard format but for a safety margin I'd go with a Cadillac backend. Probably not much more power than your option given a bit of tuning though? I think Paul mentioned previously in this thread that it will do 1300bhp on a standard bottom end!! lol

Always handy to have a margin of +1000 brake on your bottom end Although I think the weak spot will be the transmission... How to turn it all into shrapnel... take cover! LOL

To be fair, you're 100% right. To do a turbo conversion 'properly' costs a lot. A good friend has a turbo car that has about £8k in the engine bay, it's been in and running for almost 10 years and has been solidly thrashed around a variety of tracks for most of it's life. I know of a couple of hillclimb cars running forged engines and TBs that have over £10k in the engine bay, they're amazing cars but the only reason to go that route is because of race regulations. By comparison a Rocketeer is a sensible option.
Resale values ... yep, it's not why we do it but an engine swap has a much higher perceived value than a standard engined car. My V8 just sold very quickly, and I could have asked for more ... very few turbo cars break £5k
Anyway, keep doing what you're doing ... I'm trying to keep hold of my green MX5 and you're giving me some very cool ideas!!

In down time while waiting for the next engine stages I thought I'd upload some older random development bits... Ages ago I fitted some retro mirrors and vents I made some mesh shields for my TSI lights. Hides them better in the shadows than tint and doesn't flake off

More random bits... My car was fitted with GCF roll bar, door bars, Garagestar wing braces, plus various other braces. Back then when it was a soft top and before various changes were made it looked like this... (photo of my car in the link but only works on a computer not a phone)... www.gcfabrications.co.uk/I then fitted some GCF vents to the bonnet, ready for some additional cooling

I tried to respect some elements of the original car, such as the weight, NA delivery, not going too OTT on power to keep as much Mazda transmission as possible. I also liked keeping it JDM. Other hidden Honda links would be the use of Enkei wheels, as used by Honda in F1. Plus details like I wanted to use CompTech headers due to the Honda link. Not that anyone else would notice or care but I kinda like that sort of thing.
CompTech
I think a K20 or K24 may be the ultimate MX5 type of engine... high revs, light, compact. I love the ethos of those. Sadly they noise is a bit OTT for my ears. I kinda found driving an S2000 a bit annoying. Lots of noise but not that fast for all the drama. I'm sure they would be amazing on track. But for a daily I'd prefer a bit more low to mid range personally. Wonderful engines though.

Good to hear
I've had loads of cars. I've already kept this one the longest. No plans to sell it. Even if someone offered a swop for a decent Caterham 400 or similar, I'm not sure I would. So I think its a keeper now. I need at least a decade of hooning about to get my moneys worth out of it!

Ooh, those pics remind me - are you swapping / installing a 'proper' oil pressure gauge? I can't remember if you mentioned it but I think you did?!

I asked the guys about whether its worth adding another AEM guage. I have not heard back yet. What do you all think? They do different versions but I prefer the retro analogue options.
Purely for cosmetic reasons I'd like to add another. Then I can remake my third centre panel. This time with the air / fuel ratio on one side, my magnetic mobile holder in the middle, plus another guage on the other side. So keeping it all symetrical.
