Dickie, For some strange reason the Forum software throws a wobbly if you enter B M W without placing spaces between the three letters. The psychotic Forum software substitutes "Tailgate McNoIndicate" for B M W. Really odd its not a psychotic forum, just a child that setup the forum adding words into the swear filter it's easy to combat, if you wanted to write Bavarian Murder Weapon in it's shortened manner - as BMW (or bm w) Rich.

I must have led a far more sheltered life than I thought ?
Never been called a B M W, or heard anyone use that as a naughty cuss word ?
WTF ?

The forum correction is very apt. Tailgate McNoIndicate drivers get to close the my cars rear canoe I had always attributed it to the inability of the owners of such marques to operate the indicator stalk…

Hi Folks,
Getting back on thread to engines !!
The clutch arrived at work today so I delivered it to SRD so that it can be balanced with the rotating assembly.
I dropped off the main bearing caps and old shell bearings so that the block can be decked to match the new crankshaft / rod / piston combination.
Cheers Dickie.

Hi Folks, Update time. I popped over to the engine builder / machine shop after work today. Block is now bored out 85mm Phoenix crank rods pistons and flywheel all balanced. Last job will be installing the crank rods and pistons so the block can be decked then the rings will be gapped.
I collected the Billet counterbalanced Austin seven crank rods and flywheel after that has been balanced as well as the cylinder block which now has oversize inlet valves recut valves and seats as well as the ports being modified. ( Side valve so valve gear in the block )

Great work! A question however, how will the officials determine, and you prove, the new capacity of your engine? It will still outwardly resemble an 1800 will it not?

Hi Dadbif, Good question well asked. I will be changing the capacity on the logbook and will have bill from Phoenix Enginnering for the crank rods etc. Unless I start winning everthing in sight ( Highly unlikely ) it will not be a problem locally.

Let us hope your ingenious work is rewarded with results and you have to prove your reduced capacity.

Hi Folks, I have just collected the last of the engine bits. I have the block / rods / pistons / crank etc back. The bottom end was dummy built by the engine builder the check the deck height. It appears my dodgy maths was almost spot on when I calcuated the crank and rod dimensions. With the bottom end trial assembled the high compression piston just come above the deck. so the block had a minimal skim to true it.
It looks like it will be a 40 thou Cometic 85mm head gasket required as well as a complete gasket and seal set. I will have a lot of parts cleaning to do after all the machining before I can start to assemble the block.
Cheers Dickie

Hi Atlex, Its not that close !! At the moment I have a pile of very expensive bits hidden in the playpen. I have about 40 litres of red diesel to flush it all with then it will be brake cleaner to clean the diesel off before assembly starts. First job will be clearing space and cleaning the workbench !!! The head is still on the engine I am running at the moment and that will come off once the new engine is built then go off to have supertech +1 inlet valves fitted with bowl enlargement. I think the chap at SRD www.srdengines.co.uk/services.php is looking forward to see how it all works out and tuning it for me. Cheers Dickie

Hi Folks,
I have finally started to work on the block. Last night it was blasting all the machining swarf out with the airline then flushing everything with brake cleaner followed by more air blasting then sprayed everything with duck oil. This evening I have installed the ARP main bearing cap studs. More brake cleaner to flush the threads and clean the new studs which have been installed with blue loctite. Oil squirters have been cleaned and re installed. Main bearing support plate will need some modification the fit over the ARP studs. Main bearing caps have all been cleaned with brake cleaner followed by a spray with duck oil. Into work on Thursday with it for a tickle with the Big Die Grinder.
Cheers Dickie

Hi Folks, I forgot to take the oil gallery bungs out to clean the swarf out. so last night I drilled a hole in one of the brass plugs so that I could pass a rod through and drift one out then ran the drift back the other way to knock the one with the hole out. swarf now cleared out of the gallery and a suitable lump of bronze borrowed ! from work. I will make a new pair over the weekend. The main bearing support plate now fits over the ARP studs. I spent some time cleaning the engine bolts with a brass wire brush and more brake cleaner in a pot. Not time to start assembly yet though still more parts cleaning needed. I will fit the skid nation sump baffle and OEM plate first then I can use it as lid to cover the bits while the block is upside down having its insides installed. My Volvo needs some Love this weekend as its MOT time soon ! New track rod ends and lamp unit to fit. So Mazda engine will have to wait till Volvo is done !!!!

I drilled & tapped the plugs on the Mazda block I stripped (projekt on hold ) and used a socket & bolt to withdraw Rich.
