What is a realistic gain from such a set up? standard engine etc? not much more than sound & looks.... maybe even loose some torque Is the ECU actually needed? if you want more than sound & looks... if you go for further engine mods then theres more to be gained but turbo is cheaper £ for hp Rich. Interesting! Yes mine is a standard engine except for blitz induction kit, arc chamber and stainless exhaust - so yeah, standard engine! I was thinking this may be more for the noise rather than actual performance gains but if you actually loose a bit of torque and they are a pain to set up, it's not the way for me as my car is pretty much my daily. It's a different world when my old Escort RS Turbo would gain 30+ bhp from just a chip, -31 actuator, exhaust and filter! Lots more for bigger gains though of course

I had a nice coincidence of things recently. A couple of weeks ago I was driving in the daytime and wanted to wave someone across in front of me, so I went to flash my lights and realised that nothing was happening (or actually, that the lights were flashing but since they weren't popping up, they were just flashing into the engine bay). Then last week someone asked about it on a Mk1 Facebook group I'm in, and a few people mentioned that all you need to do is add a diode to the wiring. So I went to eBay, paid the massive sum of £1.84* to have the diode and instructions posted to me, and spent 10 minutes fitting it to the car last night.
So now, when I pull on the stalk, the lights pop up, flash, and go back down again when I let go!
* Yes, I'm sure I could have bought the diode separately for 25p and got the instructions off google, but that amount of my time is worth more than £1.59

At least you didn't buy the diode, go to fit it and realise that you already had one fitted loosely...

After a few beers I bought some stuff from Jass: Dipstick top (£20 but it looks nice) Two sets of 8mm top mount spacers to raise the ride height (£37 per pair, though I may not need them if I get Vindi's coilovers to replace my current set and they go higher) Timing strut/beam breaker - for use in sprints/hillclimbs. I currently use a home-made thing that slides over my front number plate, but it's a bit ugly and the holes in my front bumper that hold the plate on are getting a bit loose. I went to fit it to the front towing eye and it seems to come up a bit low from the ground, but it should still be OK. Will see in a couple of weeks at my next event...

Just ordered some new wheels and tyres for next season's sprinting, Japan Racing JR29 with Toyo R888Rs, both brand new. Thankfully they are arriving tomorrow when my wife is at work!

Lol, the contrast. I've always found honesty the best approach really, I currently have two boxes of Work wheels (still) sat in the living room infront of the TV unit, wife came in just after they arrived and just commented "Hmm, they look a bit fancy" I started to explain what they are... she left shortly after lol .

Haha yeah, explaining in detail does tend to make my wife lose interest too
There's a bit of a wall of tyres in the garage already so I think if I get rid of a set I'd probably get away with it, she doesn't look that closely.
Once on my old Impreza wagon I changed the front seats to a leather set and despite a week's holiday in the car, sitting in the front, she didn't notice. However when I changed the standard WRX bonnet scoop for a big STI one, she spotted that straight away!

They've arrived! Really don't know how they can be road legal, but they are. List 1B for MSUK events which is fine for the speed series class I'm in.

Still haven't run those wheels and tyres, but hopefully it'll be warm and dry enough soon. In the meantime I have been running Uniroyal Rainsport 5s, in 195/55/R15, to help with ground clearance when doing winter rallies down the bumpy lanes. I might get something in between for the set of wheels that currently have Toyo T1Rs on them (the set that came with the car and that I used for the first 18 months or so). What I want is a set of tyres that will handle a bit of rain, but also handle some trackday/speed events, so that I'm not stuck tiptoeing around on the R888Rs if it rains but not lumbering around on the 55 profile Rainsports if it does.
Any recommendations?

I don't see the point in using a road tyre as an inbetween option personally as presumably no matter how good they are you'll still be running the full 8mm of tread on a damp > drying track and depending which way the weather goes you'll be wanting the rainsports or 888s on. Another road tyre will only be marginally better than than the rainsports once the track is fully dry, at which point you'll want to be on the 888s. I can't really vouch for the wet performance yet but the Nankang NS2Rs are b rated in the wet, and a 50/50 road/track tyre... oh and £220 a set in 195.50r15 last time I checked.

The tricky bit is that I don't have a trailer to take the car to events on, so what I leave home on is what I'm stuck on for the event. Been thinking about getting a skidnation tyre rack thing but not done it yet.
Where did you find NS2Rs at £220 a set? they're coming up as at least £70 each when I look.
