I am mid way through putting my car back together (For reference: mighty5s.com/thread/130/zoonas-car-affectionately-baby?page=13)
In short, i was getting to the end of a complete rebuild 3 years ago, when we moved to Switzerland and just downed tools. I eventually got the car here, but have basically done bugger all to it in that time.
The problem - nothing works...
More detail:
I put the loom back into the car, so in theory it should all be complete. The only thing i did to it was remove the speaker wiring (i hope)
A few weeks ago i was able to put ignition on, dash lit up, lights worked etc and i was able to connect to megasquirt (via bluetooth to my phone) and see it working (i.e. TPS value moved when i pressed the throttle). SO i thought i was on the right track.
Weird stuff was happening though, fuel pump did not come on, and something in the engine bay was ticking intermittently.
I put the first down to my dodgy immobiliser and start button install years ago - it all worked, but i failed to label everything up properly when pulling it apart (because, you know - i'll remember all that - it's obvious...), and possibly got some of it wrong.
The second, i thought might be dodgy earth?
Since then:
- I have removed the immobiliser, and reconnected everything without it. There is still a chance i buggered that up as well though.
- Tried to trace the fuel pump connection back to source, and i can't see 12v going to it when ignition is on
- I stupidly left the battery connected and ignition on and it drained completely. I have recharged the battery and it seems to still be ok.
- Interestingly, i just went down to it to see what worked correctly, and i left the battery connected and ignition on again last night. However the battery is fine... which seems odd to me. Doesn;t that mean it is not powering what it shoudl be powering?
Currently:
- The ECU seems to fire up, and i can see some leds on inside it (although they are constantly on, not just when the ignition is on - is that correct?)
- I can't connect to ECU, but i think that may be the bluetooth connector (which keeps dropping the connection - but could this be the ECU dropping power to it?), so i have a cable on order. I have takent he board out to look at it, and there are no obvious 'prarrie canoe stains' on the board.
- I have replaced the fuel pump as when i took the old one out to test it, it didn't spin when 12v applied. However still doesn't start up with ignition
- The dash no longer lights up, but indicators and headlights work correctly.
Right now, I am losing the will to live. I have forgotten everything i ever learned about this car, and am ready to chuck it in the bin.
In addition, we are potentially moving to the US soon, so I need to decide what to do with it.
I think the next steps should be to:
- Get a cable and connect to ECU to make sure that isn't Canoeed
- Double check all the wiring and earths (I don't understand why the battery didn't die last night with ignition on)
But then I am a bit stuck. Where should i start?
(if anybody wants to come here and just fix it all for me, run it in and tune it - that woudl be great too )
