I like to spend hours pounding round race tracks in my silly little car.
Having been in the land of no motorsport, or any sort of vehicular fun, for the last three years, I was really excited to be able to get back to it in the USA.
However... I am struggling to find the same sort of scene as the UK.
I can find a few trackdays where it is all super regulated and you have to start in the 'novice' group and work your way up. And that's fine as it has been a few years, and I was no Lewis Hamilton anyway. But there are not many of them. And also bloody miles away. And not like "omg i have to drive to Norfolk" I mean days away.
I can also find private tracks where for your fee of $10-55k (plus a few thousand every year) you have the privilege of attending trackdays at their track. Now, this is ludicrously expensive and why the fuck would I want to go to the same track every time? Mental.
From the lime rock website
"When high-end, sophisticated cars – as machines meant to be driven, enjoyed, appreciated – are central to someone’s lifestyle, the Lime Rock Drivers Club is where they choose go. No question, the Club caters to enthusiasts who’ve reached a certain station in life. But those with means will find the experience goes well beyond dollars and cents."
Now, don't get me wrong, I am a massive snob. But you should definitely call me out if I ever say I have "reached a certain station in life". ffs.
I don’t think they would accept an mx5 either...
I looked on the usual miata sites, and most of the trackday sections seem to be quite old - lots of autocross which looks like a lot of standing around and about 3 minutes of chucking yourself round a carpark.
Can anybody point me to any 'normal' trackday action?
Does anybody know where there a good tracks in the New Jersey (and surrounding) area?

In evo magazine this month they were reviewing some Ford truck that was the size of a house with 1500bhp or something ridiculous? lol Anyway, the point was that apparently there are huge areas allocated as free-to-use 'off road play areas' for vehicles, so if you don't mind getting dusty and fitting higher suspension, some amusing off-road sideways action could be had

Welcome to "The land of the free" Your only free if you can afford it though. I think this is why most US folk tend to gravitate towards autocross, driving round cones is okay now and again but would get old fast. I've seen a lot of the US youtubers doing Gridlife events and you seem to get a lot out of those so might be worth looking into, pretty sure if you've done more then 5 UK track days on "Road courses" as they call them you should be okay with doing an intermediate but might be worth doing a novice day anyway just to get a feel for the US track etiquette as I'm pretty sure if you go at it like we do here you'll not be making any friends lol. Also you'll need a roll bar (pretty sure your car has one), the latest snell2020 helmet etc if your not hiring etc.

The members cost too, honestly that is absolutely retarded. I'm not a big fan of the US myself with some of the daft prarrie canoe they already do, this isn't helping the cause . Its a decent place to visit though (I've seen more of it than that average American has LOL)

The way they go about some things, honestly. You have to wonder if it's a stitch up, by con artists, for idiots.

I tried to join there a while ago but theres some issue Rich. Had the same issue, emailed the site admin and he sorted it pretty quick. I still haven't posted there yet though, just some good info/posts and the search needs a login

Have you checked www.motorsportreg.com? Most events I go to are posted there and it should be a good way to find what you are looking for. There is a group that runs trackcross events at Summit Point pretty regularly which may not be crazy far from you.

Thanks, I'll take a look.
My car is due to arrive in the country tomorrow, then it will be a week or two before it gets to me. We are also in the process of buying a house, so I think this season is not going to happen for me. But can get prepared for next year...
Thanks for the info
