I've also got the capacitor one. Supposed to be more reliable, but doesn't stay on very long though with the power cut, maybe about 30 seconds. Don't know if yours is any better?

I don't think the capacitor versions are really supposed to stay on that long. Mine turns off instantly. Not sure if that's cause I set it like that when fiddling about with the settings.
My research showed that they are much more reliable as batteries tend to bugger up over the course of time and the heat in the car deteriorates it too. (Pretty sure is what happened to my old one). I'll have a bit of a play later to see if i can have it stay on after ignition is switches off.

This happened to me today. You seem to have lots of interesting things to capture on your dashcam! I've had mine for 9 months and never captured anything remotely interesting, apart from some nice scenery.

A lot of these cameras described as HD are referring to the format ie 1920x1080, it has nothing to do with quality of the images.
Even saying "outputs in HD" is just the size of the picture not how much detail etc.
Bit annoying when shopping around.

I'm still waiting for the day a policeman will probably come around to my house and ask me why I was drifting around a local roundabout 2 months ago. For me to strongly deny these false allegations, only for him to wack some dash cam footage out someone has taken. As good as these are, these are the end for fast road driving as we know it!!!

I know what you're saying, but I think there is a difference between fast (or rather "spirited") driving, and irresponsible driving. I have lost count of the number of times I've seen some wonker in a Tailgate McNoIndicate or an Audi acting like a complete douchecanoe and putting other drivers' lives in danger. If someone hands in some footage of them and they get prosecuted for it, then good. If one "happened" to slide the back out a bit when the road is clear and no-one is around to get hurt, then there will also be no dashcams there recording either

But I don't agree with people recording all this footage only to upload to youtube, because someone indicated incorrectly around a roundabout, was in the wrong lane in a busy city and had to cut (safely) into the right lane. I've been there in big cities trying to follow the dreaded sat nav, not having a clue what lane to be in getting honked by your local driver who knows the system. Should only be allowed to use them for serious incident or extremely poor driving IMO. It's not the average joe's job to drive around on the lookout for poor driving to then brandish on youtube and share to the world.

Yeah I do agree, and I think the police also have better things to do than to trawl through hours of Auntie Joan's footage of someone forgetting to use their indicator (oh the horror!).
I would imagine though that the police would only bother to devote resources to following it up if it was a serious contravention that clearly endangered other road users.

Just before I deleted my facebook account I remember one constabulary posting up on their page some dude in a 1.1 106 who had just received a ban due to dangerous driving captured on a dash cam. Totally ballsy (mind blowingly stupid) overtake around a bend, god forbid that guy should ever get behind the wheel of a quick car!!!
