Hi there.. It's a 2008 model.
The clutch IS THE AUTO problem. The ultra rare manual is not the problem. But try and find one.
A clutch in 12,000 miles is not unusual. The ecu can be interrogated to see the the % of wear already on the clutch. If there is less than 30% left ... .WALK AWAY. because if you don't you'll be walking home soon anyway. There are accounts of the wear indicator at 80% wear shutting the engine off and stranding the car by the road side. The variators are not if they fail, but when they fail. The rusty subframe problem is very very hard to spot. You must have the car in the air to see it and its subframe out to repair it. That's £10K. Of course in the USA these are all covered by Maserati warrantee, er, but not here or Europe.
Yes they are stunning. It's not that they are a bad car, they are a rich mans car, oh God, or woman's. And when they get a tad older, 3 years and are out of warrantee, rich people don't want them, they want a new one. So the problems get passed on and Maserati are just not interested at all.
They are a genuine Super Car. Bloody huge in size and forget all the petrol figures. Look to average 16Mpg.
The running costs soon add up. That's why an £80K car can be had for £15K. Same as a Bentley GT. The trade price of low mileage 2008 car in superb condition with about 35,000 miles is around £10K That alone lets you know what a gamble they are.
Having said all that. I know what an "itch" it can be.
But looking at your Alfa. I would say this to you.
KEEP THE ALFA, it's only going up in price. The opposite of the Maserati. And it's a stunning car. The one to have for sure.
Regards. Rich.

What do you do when Summer is just round the corner? Fit fog lights of course! Please excuse the shabby bumper. Respray is imminent!

Nice. Is that cutout your own design?

All my own work 👍 Took inspiration (??) from a Spoon S2000 Bumper (below), but my own interpretation. I was looking for a balance between the main intake and intakes in the Garage Vary spoiler. It's come out well because it accentuates the shape of the main intake by framing it. It was a bitch to do the second side because I winged it a bit with the first side and, with all the different curves on the bumper, reference points were hard to achieve when marking up the second side for cutting.

So today has been a day experimenting with 'drape forming' acrylic windows to the fog-light cutouts in my 'Endurance racer' (that's the theme I'm building on anyway) bumper. I've only done one side so far but I'm pretty pleased with how the process has worked so far. The intention is to move the light units back behind the covers (Some metal 'persuasion' with an angle grinder will be required). The covers will then be rivetted in place. Here's how the first one looks atm. Yes, there is acrylic there! It's soooooo clear. Follows the contours of the bumper perfectly

Drape forming?
Heating it up and letting it form to the shape?

Uurrrgh. This mod has turned into a TOTAL ball-ache.
Having made the contoured acrylic window covers (Awesome), I have had to cut away a lot of metal from the ends of bumper supports to recess the lights sufficiently behind them. . . which has resulted in a lack of adequate mounting location points. Doh!
On top of that I subsequently realised that the back of the 'windows' are just going to get peppered with road debris, flung onto them by the front tyres. Double Doh!
I'm currently trying to box in the lights behind the bumper but it's extremely challenging. First attempt, with cut up plastic boxes, already abandoned after 3 hrs canoeing about yesterday.
Ideally I think I'm going to have to rivet together some shaped lightweight aluminium boxes, but that's expensive and my budget is tight as I've been out of work for 7 months now!
