Had a play with the cranking IACV duty settings but didn't make much difference. Black Boots quoted £499 Inc VAT for brand new Sportives which was very reasonable tbh, but fitting and new ancillaries (All bolts will snap, or need to be cut off) bumps the price. What's it doing when it's cranking? Are you getting backfires/cranking slowing down? Hyrdolocking during cranking? I made a lot of mistakes trying to get mine to go, is the only reason I'm trying to help Takes around 10secs of continuous cranking and throttle feathering to fire, revs then spike before falling rapidly. Then dies on the first couple of attempts before finally it will start normally(ish). Not enough fuel in one of the starting phases/cycles?

I would look at your cranking IACV duty, if you adjust that so you don't need to use throttle to start it. then once it'll start, adjust IACV duty for cold coolant temps so it'll catch it. I had to open up my idle air screw and balance my throttle body stop before I could get it to work. If it needs throttle to start, adjust your IACV. If it backfires it needs more fuel essentially, as there's not enough to start and it builds up till you get the big bang. Charge your battery as well, even if you think you don't need to, just to be safe.

Think I killed the starter motor.

Could be the battery still, mine got to a point the charging did nothing. Try jumping it off another car?

Well, summers on the way, so it's time to start 'again' with Ronin.
I forgot I'd killed the starter motor, or whatever it is I've done. I just parked him up in September and have not touched him since. The rear spring was broken on the suspension and I'd just lost the will and run out of funds.
Fortunes have changed though. I've been promoted and offered a perm position where I've been working on rolling 6 month Fixed term contracts for the last two years, so a little more disposable income to play with now
I've just been quoted £870 to supply and fit MeisterR Sportive Coilovers Inc 4 wheel alignment, which I think is a great deal, so need to get Ronin fired up and running ASAP.
Hoping it's 'just' a starter motor!

New starter motor arrived this morning. Solenoid is clicking, so don't think it's the ignition switch and battery is putting out 12.45 I tried hitting the starter motor with a hammer but it just won't crank!

Thread resurrection!
After a long break from all things 5 (and abandoning Ronin halfway through the starter motor install, because I was frustrated by the lack of access to the bolts), I've decided to return to getting him sorted again.
Whilst he's still on axle stands I've finally bitten the bullet and ordered some MeisterR coilovers. With a broken rear spring on the 33 year old Bilsteins I felt it was finally the opportunity to retire them.
Couldn't quite bring myself to part with a bag of sand for Zeta CRDs, so have just gone for Sportives (fast road use), which were on offer at Bofi Racing (10% off).

I am happy with my car on brand new billies and matching new springs with IL motorsports bushings. I am trying to keep it as close to stock as possible apart from engine fiddling !!!

To be honest, I have absolutely loved the car on the Bilsteins and had no intention to change them, but when I went to get the spring changed at BlackBoots/Wheels in Motion the guys told me three of the dampers were weeping and it was finally time to say goodbye.
Wonder if the Meisters will last as long? 🤔

Coilies are on back-order due to the discount deal. Dispatch due October 3rd, which gives me some time to get the starter motor installation finished and try and work out why the replacement windscreen wiper motor is so sloooooow. Still haven't sold the Alfa either, as it's been an incredibly busy season of Athletics training/competition for the boys (Training 4x a week, with every weekend dedicated to it).
