As someone deprived of woeful appalling unreliable great British roadsters of old, I'm looking forward to see the progress. And a bit envious too

Finally got the engine and gearbox out! No engine lift in sight... Lugged the engine out with Anne's brother (he's huge, and a mechanic) gearbox was a bit lighter and I managed it myself. Now to get some soda/sandblasting quotes. If they're stupidly expensive, we will buy one ourselves

Been refurbing the carbs in front of the tv this week! One side cleaned and polished! The other not so much!

that looks like fun!
WYNNs FTW <B I find cleaning metal parts with high-volatility substances strangely relaxing.

Finally got round to doing some things on the car! Bought one of these and started sprayed tonnes of engine degreaser all over then used the karcher to wash it all off. Ended up looking a bit more orange by the end of yesterday. Then we put together our teeny tiny soda blaster Tested it on a random part. It took way too long to just do this little part of the front sill ... I'm helpful with car stuff. All in all. A bit disappointed in the soda blasting. It seems fine for random little bits, but not the right tool for stripping the whole car. Now looking at other options!

Lots of work and lots of money! Already spent more on it in the last 2 months than my mx5 cost! Managed to get some bits done on the chassis today too. Painted it with some special (very rust coloured) paint!

Quite a bit has been done in the last week or So! Got a trailer picking it up tomorrow so had to get it rolling for the welding! New leaf spring and shocks on the rear and new shocks and springs on the front. New bushes etc. And also painted the chassis black. Body tub was a bit more of a pain than I expcted to get back on.

I was married at Brooklands a few years ago, it's a great venue. One thing I wish I'd done is grab a load of the guide leaflets from the museum and stick one with each invitation so guests know what's there. The ones that did venture out for a look round were suitably surprised and enjoyed it all. Good luck getting the car ready! Oh and if they offer you a few cars to ferry round guests do check what the deal is. We were told £500 for a couple of replica vintage cars based on Escorts or whatever and something like a Cortina convertible. Not the pre-war cars I'd been hoping for (and they wouldn't let some friends of mine with old cars do it themselves...).
