OK, so. atlex suggested I do this. My girlfriend used to send me pictures of cool cars she see's. She then found she really liked the GT6/Spitfire type cars. We started having random ideas of getting one as a project, but never really committing to what we wanted/how much etc. So we looked and found the GT6 was completely out of our price range, then started looking at Spitfire projects on eBay. Then one random Sunday in August last year while we were out with my family for my birthday, we put a bid in. We won. Then the adrenaline kicked in, of, did we really just buy that rust bucket? The week later, we booked a trailer to meet us there and viola It hadn't been on the road in over 10 years, but drove onto the trailer fine. Poor thing had to sit outside for another couple of months while the garage got sorted, as it had been converted to a bedroom. It fits nice and snuggly! We started stripping the car and found it had an awful greeny grey spray job, but the original colour was orange! So we decided you know what? Let's go back to the original colour! It will go great with my MX5 Also, the car is diddy. Like you think MX5's are small? Weirdly, more space inside that the MX. The garage wasn't a pleasant place to be in the winter. Even with the heater on, it was still stupidly cold! So we tried doing little bits on the sofa, like shining up these Christmas time came around also, so not much got done. And trying to get Project - bought my dad an MX5 on the road. Also the garage has a TV/Xbox and I got distracted.

We stripped the rear end pretty quickly and didn't take any pictures. Then we started on the front. Stripping paint is LONG. Do you see the hole? Yeah. Err, the car has apparently had a front end collision at some point. There was a LOT of filler built up around the hole and dent. We have decided that, we're just going to get a new fiberglass bonnet. Probably a GT6 style one too. It's not going to be cost effective to repair the bonnet, it requires a lot of work. So off it comes, the car approves. The engine has been stripped a bit here obviously and the interior is mostly stripped. Just needs the loom removing Does anybody know what this button does? lol And this is where I'm currently at. Engine is almost ready to come out, loom also. The decision has been made we will definitely be getting it soda blasted, so we can get a proper idea of what need welding. Did I mention the gf has a welder for an uncle?

Very cool. The kind of car you need a cigar in one hand to drive properly :-)
Also congrats on a GF who likes such things. Worth hanging onto along with the car.

definitely the right decision to go back to orange. 70s-tastic.
What are you doing engine-wise? Back to stock or silly mx5 turbo?...

Always loved a Spitfire. Went looking for one years back but ended up with a TR7, and then a TR7V8. Different cars altogether.. no charm like the Spitfire has.

I'd like to make it faster etc but in a compromise, I'm allowed to do whatever i want with my Mx5 without any problems of "you're spending how much on turbo/super charging?"

Sounds like you have a good deal there. My wife has just shown me her new dressage outfit and i sneaked a peak at the cost. I am putting that one in my back pocket for later use...

Love this, I've always fancied one myself... I think keeping it stock or period modded is the way to go with something like this. Even if you fit a better engine it's still going to handle like a pos ? compared to the mx5...

I was thinking of a few cheeky upgrades like some cams... We shall see! Heh, i got lapped at Brands Hatch by a Spitfire... Don't think it was stock though! Oh and somebody/Triumph decided to use screws here. Not bolts. Having to drill them out. Ugh!

Today we removed the loom. With the intention of fitting a new one cause why not. Looked online, they are expensivvvve! Sticking with the original one! Next up, engine out. In a couple of weeks

Things are getting close to actually doing interesting things! Today we got rid of the last ballache bolts and screws that rounded out when trying to remove them. Gf using the dremel to cut the bolt off! And finally looked up how to remove the window wiper motor, as I was a bit stumped and left it. you have to take the motor itself apart to remove the wiper cable from inside the car.
