Well, seems I was a bit dim and didn't work out the dimensions of my new tyres properly. I wanted more sidewall...but not this much. It sits against the arch liner on the front wheels! I had 195/50 R15s, the new ones are 195/65 R15s. 59mm different diameter, according to this calculator. I'm sure I worked it out before and it was 40mm. Will have to call the tyre shop and see if they'll take them back and swap for something a bit smaller What a pillock.
Right, so I can take the tyres back and get a refund(since they haven't been driven anywhere). But the place I got them fitted doesn't have the ones I want, so I've ordered them off Camskill, will get them delivered to me, then get a mobile fitter to fit them, then take the other ones back. What a blimmin faff. I'm going for Uniroyal Rainsport 5s in 195/55 R15, Camskill doing them for £56 each (everywhere else has them for about £80!)

I got the Rainsport 5 for the missus' car in a similar width/profile - not bad. Seem decent in the wet but perhaps not as good as the (now discontinued) Eagle F1 GS-D2 I ran on a previous car, and the sidewalls seem quite soft compared to other tyres I've tried, but I'll be interested to hear your views on them, boggissimo - it does seem like tyres can perform differently in different sizes?!

They get an A rating for wet grip, and either way I'm sure they'll be better than the hardened Michelins that were taken off. Tyres arrived with me today, will get a mobile fitter to put them on the wheels and then take the unused RainExperts back to the place that fitted them (they wouldn't fit customer-supplied tyres, and wouldn't order from somewhere other than their agreed suppliers).
Also found the missing gear lever bush last night, stapled to the receipt from MX5parts, so I fitted that and also replaced all of the windscreen washer squirt tubing with aquarium tubing and fittings, works really well now.

Prepping to remove the gearbox over the weekend (guide HERE) Hoping it won't be as big of a chew as last time as the head/exhaust/coil pack are all off and out of the way. 5 speed will go back on hopefully with a performance clutch, new rear crank seal, potentially gearbox seals as well, resurfaced flywheel and spigot bearing. After fixing all my other leaks, the rear crank seals started leaking with real vigour

Hi Scottydugg, I have taken a gearbox out from under the car on my own and replaced it after doing the work I needed. The only difficult bit was taking the powerplant frame off the diff, I took it off to give me me more room to work. I used about 1m of extension bars to get at the bellhousing bolts. You need to et the car high and safe. Most axle stands will not get the car high enough you need van ones and a decent floor jack. My equipment allows me to lift the car up by 800mm on four axle stands. Make sure that the minimum is taken off the flywheel face if it needs to be re surfaced. Abrading with emery paper is usually enough to remove any glaze. If the surface needs to be skimmed make sure that the clutch posts are skimmed by the same amount to maintain the correct engagement distance.
Have fun and stay safe !!

"normalement", as they say in french, I've bought an OEM mk1 front lip. Hope it does arrive ... Kind of painted a cream color so will need a redo. Black or BRG not decided yet. 50€ posted so had to jump on it. we'll see well I received it , little split that probably the other guy didn't see along one of the brake air ducts (easy fix), and it's not a OEM Mazda item but a IL Motorsport (ref NA0 0620). Overall I'm happy with this "blindish" purchase Also bought another dash gauge / dial cluster to play with ...

I fitted the new piston in my offside rear brake caliper last night, was a bit of a pain as it didn't seem to be retracting very well. Not sure if the new splined adjuster is already toothless, it just seems to spin and not do anything! I also put the new Rainsport 5s on the car, and they fit OK (went from 195/50 to 195/55) and feel good on a very short run to the MOT garage and back. Talking of which, MOT retest was OK so it now has a pass for 2021 Tester said the handbrake was a bit weak (probably due to the dodgy adjuster/caliper) but good enough to get through. And I made sure to show him where the fog light switch was this time!

Took it along to my local garage with a couple of new front calipers and a set of pads to hopefully cure the stuck on front brake. I'd booked a place on the Cheltenham Winter Autosolo on Dec 28th so it had to be done! So the brake didn't stick all the way there and all was pronounced good, no sticking calipers and they cleaned up the discs for me. Yay! Just got an email saying the Autosolo has been cancelled. Boo Have a good Xmas everyone

I've serviced rear brakes on both my cars the last few months/weeks. Now to service the fronts. I love a good greasing session. huh.
Dab hand at doing the hand brake adjustment now too. I've found the handbrake can take a little driving to settle/bed. so it's worth taking the time to go back and check the adjustment after a few miles. The instructions to back off 1/3 is complete bullprarrie canoe imo. With nuts on or wheel attached Tighten it until the wheel won't move and then back it off just enough that it can.

Gearbox is out and clutch assembly off, bought a BOFI racing clutch kit.
Just buying gearbox seals, replaced rear crank seal (100% the cause of, my hopefully, last engine oil leak).

Whilst the car is in the garage waiting for the ECU map, I decided to remove the to sill covers & squirt a load of ACF-50 in there. An hour or so later, there were pools under the sills.... At least I know the drain holes aren’t blocked.😁

Very mundane. I've fitted a boot rack. I know....exciting eh? Funnily enough I picked one up the other day too, haven't fitted it yet.
Is that a side exhaust?
