Hi there. Yes, that's a side exhaust.... Regards. Rich. EX - was that originally a local to me Norfolk car? 'EX' is Great Yarmouth but have also seen cars registered in Norwich with an EX registration

Hello Suggs.
I've owned number plate R666 HEX for a very long time now. I bought it from a number plate site in Exchange and Mart! That was decades ago.....
I've also got some other 666 HEX ones.
Regards. Rich.

Took it for a drive out today for the first time in about three weeks. Seat is soaking wet from halfway down the back and on the seat cushion, and there's still a puddle in the footwell but I can't see where it's getting in - the window seems to be sealing against the rubber, so unless the rubber's gone hard / out of shape somehow, I'm a bit confused... Anyway, didn't stop the fun - was nice to get some open air motoring on relatively empty roads with a lower grip level thanks to the eeeeevil salt!

I went out for a great fun drive in the lanes last night, ostensibly to warm up the oil in the gearbox before changing it, but also to get a better idea of how the car will perform on a greasy cold night with the refreshed brakes and new tyres (if we ever get out to do 12 car rallies again). It is great Ride height increase means it didn't really scrape on any bumps, and plenty of grip. Still managed to lock up the front wheels a couple of times, so might well look at a brake proportioning valve in the future, but brake performance is much better than previously. Anyway, when I got back home I put it up in the air and started trying to change the gearbox and diff oil. Sprayed the fill and drain plugs with Aerokroil (penetrating lubricant) but couldn't get the fill plug on the gearbox to budge (using a 14mm open spanner). At least I did get both the diff plugs to move so I drained and refilled with GL-5 fluid. I only managed to get about 500 ml into it - Haynes said it should take 650 ml - but the car was level and it was coming out of the fill hole, so maybe I didn't get all the old oil out. Any tips on either freeing up the gearbox fill plug (square ~14mm end)? If I have to resort to filling via the reverse light switch hole, how will I know when it's at the correct level?

Sourced a replacement speedo cable, since the gearbox is out.
Apparently a jumpy speedo gauge is not "because it's mechanically linked/solid suspension", it's a sign your speedo cable grease is dry and likely to snap sooner rather than later,

Replacing the gearbox for not being able to undo the fill plug is a bit extreme! theres no kill like OVERKILL actually meant as a getaround if the plug doesn't want to play or the casing's threads strip..... As for the stuck filler plug. some differential heating/cooling and an impact wrench ? hummm. access for said impact wrench? cut passanger side of carpet & gearbox tunnel out & access from passanger seat Rich.

ah, I forgot there's bugger all access.
cheeky thought.. get a breaker bar on and angled right and then lower the car so the weight of the bar turns the thing.. ahem.
