So far my favourite cheap upgrade was fitting a solid metal Voodoo gear knob. The perfect sphere is so comfy. The textured matt black finish looks OEM and never slips. The low profile and added mass feels great. So post yours...

Foamectomy, gets you sitting lower and makes the seat hug you more = Free!
CG Lock, locks the lapbelt tension and pins you in to the now foamectomied seat so you can concentrate on steering the car rather than holding on = £40ish

Good ideas!
I found the standard mk1 foam seats to be way too high and squidgy, like a sofa. I put mk2 leather ones in mine, which are lower and firmer. Not cheap though.
I've seen those seatbelt locks before. Anyone know of some other brands for these? Do you all rate them?

free interior mods.. on mk1.. turning the interior lights upside down (you just pop out the units and set them so the switch is at the bottom rather than the top) gives more useful light if you're on a mk2 interior, just remove the rear cup holder in the centre console. it's less annoying without it. same on the mk1 interior, centre console.. just roll without the ashtray.. it's much better that way. free performance mods.. dumping the charcoal canister, free bhp/ton upgrades. dump the spare wheel and jack, again free upgrades to the bhp/ton. big savings there.

Led strip light wired into the door lights. Basically free for me to do. +1 on charcoal canisters, flash to pass and spare wheel removal Led dash lights are cheap. Mk2 wind blocker. Detango the sidelights

I'm loving some of your ideas. Especially losing weight for free!

Chassis bracing. One of the cheapest mods that will give you an actual result.

Nothing that I end up fixing or upgrading ends up being cheap I do love dweenimus's lighting solution, though, that is pretty damn awesome.

If you'd like to know how to do lots of cool stuff cheaply to your car then just google Hammy's car 19. He was on that other site for a short while, did something like a 20 page build thread and basically reinvented alchemy for the petrolhead. It's worth a read. Love the Ferris Bueller tagline, incidentally...

Cool, will do, thanks! ps That was also copied into LTJ Bukem's lyrics on Logical Progression back in the 90s. The soundtrack to my late teen driving days. Still as good today
