This might be recognised by one or two people here, my RS bought as a fresh import last year, it's an ongoing project that will probably never be finished. It's off the road for winter now so I'll be renovating the interior and sorting out a few other things after a summer of hard use. Lots of photos of work done on it so far here: www.dewisant-photography.net/y_ogb_MX5_Page4a.htm And one to be going on with.

Nice car. I've had a few RS Limiteds but now only left with 2 sets of seats from them. That looks a great example.

Thanks, it was a real mess when it landed here off the boat from Japan but it looked pretty rust free. After having worked on it and had a borescope inside the sills and box sections it's like new in there so well worth the gamble of buying it. There's still a fair bit needs doing but I'll chip away at it so gradually it'll improve. I've got a set of original BBS alloys for it - which I'm not keen on hence the RBs - and it came with the original Recaro seats. They need re-covering though really so I'll have them done over winter, there's a trimmer in Preston who's done me and a few mates motorbike seats so I'll let him do them - he's good.

That's something on my to do list, get my recaros recovered.
Not sure whether to get them done in leather or the original cloth though...

Well, Christmas and New Year are now nicely out of the way so winter work on the RS can begin. Took the Recaro seats out today and e.mailed a trimmer in Preston for prices on a couple of options. Option one is to just get the removable back and seat inserts covered. Problem with that is the dealer I bought the car from had the seats only partially re-covered - just the damaged bits - so they're already a couple of different shades of black and doing more bits is just going to make them worse. Also the bases, one of which was covered and the other not, now have disintegrating foam so really need to be completely re-made. The backs don't look too good either. Option 2 is to have them both totally re-covered in black and have new seat bases / backs made. Option 3 is to have them covered in a colour, I quite fancy them in dark blue after doing a quick Photoshop mock up today, probably a slightly darker blue than in the photo below though. Option 4 - put the Recaros in the loft and buy another pair of nice buckets and preserve the originals as best I can Option5 - put the Recaros in the loft and go find a nice wooden box to sit on.........cheapest option that - so quite tempting Photo time............. Seats out In blue

Being as it's an RS I'd opt for original black, but agree a dark blue would probably set off the colour of the car body nicely. If I had the money I'd merge the options by recovering in black, placing in storage and getting some nice blue buckets for day to day use. Unfortunately it's a bit more expensive than the wooden box!
BTW how comfortable are the Recaro's compared to normal Eunos seats? I find the standard V Spec seats in mine are amazingly comfortable for day to day use.

BTW how comfortable are the Recaro's compared to normal Eunos seats? I find the standard V Spec seats in mine are amazingly comfortable for day to day use. The Recaros are deceptively comfy, not a "sink into them" kinda comfy but in a more supportive way - for me anyway because I'm just the right size for them to be nicely bum hugging. When I first got the RS I had planned to store the Recaros and fit standard seats as I really like to have my seat reclined a bit more than the Recaros are, but after driving with them for a few days I was sold. They really are nice and hold me in well when I'm being a hooligan, the only problem with mine is that the driver seat foam is well sat out now so it's like sitting on a plank after a while. I had considered storing the Recaros as suggested and buying some other seats, but they're part of what the car is so I'm more inclined to keep them in. The RS isn't my daily driver so it gets relatively little use and based on that it would be a shame to hide the Recaros away somewhere. A lot depends on how much they're going to cost to be refurbed, if it's going to be mega bucks then I will store them and get some other seats. I'm still waiting for the place I mailed yesterday to get back to me with a ball park figure. I've had a few more thoughts and a bit of a doodle about with photoshop to get some rough ideas for colours, I know really they should stay black but the interior is a bit dark and dowdy hence wanting to brighten it up a bit. Meantime, while I'm thinking about it, I'll get some more enquiries into other trimmers and see what comes back pricewise.
