Productive day up at Skuzzle today, the 5 still has a small oil leak, nothing major but I'll get it sorted in may probably when I'm free again. Had an alternator belt shred on me earlier in the week, ripped a line from the carbon canister off too, as it was already disconnected I ripped that out today. Also (boring alert) the washers weren't working, sorted them and the intermittent wipers isn't working, aparently it's just a relay, no biggie as full wipe works but again something to sort when I'm next up there. After the last track session at Combe we noticed my front tyres were down to the cords, into kwik fit to relieve me of money I don't have, £150 later I now have 2 Pirelli PZero Nero GTs fitted, still got Continental Sport Contact 3s on the rear. Just need to get the alignment sorted (again).

Also I've pinched a picture from hoodedreeper from Combe, he was on the punks stand, go have a look at his purple monster, very nice!

seems as though fitting 5x114.3 wheels on this has fallen flat on its face, I found a number of ways which work better than the stud adapters but the cheapest comes in at circa £400 and involves a lot of my time. With all of my spare time going towards the 7 and being skinter than skint this'll have to sit on the back burner along with the RX-5 front bumper I was designing and LED tail lights Ill be calling up the wheel alignment centre to book us in this week, hopefully they can do the 13th as suggested!

A few small annoying things have crept up on the 5 recently, firstly an annoying creak from the rear on acceleration and deceleration, I sprayed each of the bushes the other weekend and it has had no effect, therefore I'm pretty certain it's the spacers, when I get time I'll remove them and see if that fixes the issue. The other small annoying thing was my intermittent wiper wasn't working... off came the steering wheel Then off came the clock spring, I think about 7 screws later the indicator assembly was replaced thanks to Horney's breaker (again). Back on went the clock spring and finally the steering wheel, possibly the easiest thing to do on a car and you get the luxury of sitting down whilst you do it Some of the flocked bits have remained off the car for the time being until I can get mr Ron to redo them, what a ledge

So it's been a while since the last update, turns out the new G19 manifold has cracked again (this is the second new one). They only seem to live for about 8 months before cracking. I'll just leave that there and my obvious dissatisfaction to myself. G19 off and BlackCat on, I have high hopes for the new manifold and downpipe as I've only heard great things and Martin is a genuinely nice guy. Car immediately feels the best it's ever been and apart from the downpipe slightly fouling the subframe it's sweet. Also spent the day with the DaveFab guys and their 300+whp beast. Very jelly!! So much for getting the 7 on the road this week...

Also worth mentioning the MASSIVE difference in weight between the G19 and the BlackCat manifolds. BlackCat is all round a far better product in my opinion. And a pic of cracky mccrackface

Looks like the G19 would benefit from a turbo hanger / brace...

It's worth noting (and laughing) that G19's online shop won't even punt a log mani anymore.

Didn't grab a photo of the Blackcat one but next time I see one in skuzzle I'll grab a photo. Btw the G19 one does have a brace, it's on the bottom and looks like this. The design has now changed and the brace (I think) is now fitted on top.

Its been a few weeks, car had struggled to get through its MOT. the number of tests easily went into double figures...
So the first half a dozen... Test date: 29 June 2017 Test Result: Fail Odometer reading: 97,415 miles MOT test number: 3265 6173 5923 Reason(s) for failure: Nearside Rear Tyre has ply or cords exposed (4.1.D.1b) Nearside Rear Tyre thread depth below requirements of 1.6mm (4.1.E.1) Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content at idle excessive (7.3.D.4) Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle excessive (7.3.D.3) Exhaust emissions Lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits (7.3.D.3) Advisory notice item(s): Offside Rear Tyre worn close to the legal limit Wearing on inner edge. (4.1.E.1) Parking brake lever has little reserve travel (3.1.6b) Oil leak () Rear Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases Joint. (7.1.2) Rear Brake pad(s) wearing thin (3.5.1g)
the straight fails were tyres and emissions... tyres replaced same day and multiple trips to try and get the car through on emissions, couldnt get carbon monoxide and lambda through together... one went through then the other went out, back and forth about 6 times... we then thought rather than driving from Winchester to Gosport each time we'd just ask the garage next to skuzzle to have a go. Their first attempt;
Test date: 3 July 2017 Test Result: Fail Odometer reading: 97,591 miles MOT test number: 5520 8771 2072 Reason(s) for failure: Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle excessive (7.3.D.3) Central Exhaust system not adequately supported (7.1.1) Advisory notice item(s): handbrake travel long Rear Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases (7.1.2) Oil leak () Nearside Rear Brake pad(s) wearing thin (3.5.1g) Offside Rear Brake pad(s) wearing thin (3.5.1g)
So as the tyres had been replaced it was still the emissions. Still wouldn't go through. A new cat was ordered as we believed this was the problem, unfortunately that took a number of weeks so the car sat unused and unloved until the new cat arrived. New cat fitted and...
Test date: 20 July 2017 Test Result: Fail Odometer reading: 97,592 miles MOT test number: 5958 9252 5808 Reason(s) for failure: Emissions not tested co and lamba to high (7.3.A.1) Advisory notice item(s): sill covers fitted surface corrosion on the o/s/f chassi leg Rear Brake pad(s) wearing thin (3.5.1g) Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases middle box to back box join (7.1.2)
For Canoes sake! now nearly a month on, new tyres, new cat and 5fest at llandow looming prarrie canoe started to hit the fan as it failed again. To top it all off the guys also found a rusty chassis leg when I thought all the rust had been sorted when I first got it. Nick ripped out the wideband and refitted a narrowband... time to try again...
Test date: 27 July 2017 Expiry date: 26 July 2018 Test Result: Pass Odometer reading: 97,592 miles MOT test number: 5749 2356 1741 Advisory notice item(s): sill covers fitted surface corrosion on the o/s/f chassi leg Rear Brake pad(s) wearing thin (3.5.1g) Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases middle box to back box join (7.1.2)
Thank Canoe for that! new set of brake pads bought and in the car (the glove box) they'll be fitted this weekend. the rust will be sorted in a few weeks when money is better (its not as bad as I thought) and we'll take the side skirts off to inspect the sills. Im hoping these are fine as they were repaired when I first got the car.

5fest went well, I kept my record of spinning on each trackday without hitting anything (touches wood) only did the 2 classed runs and I was content with everything for the day, didn't bother driving again in the open pit even with the offer of driving the skuzzle mk1. Nick took me out in my car (him driving) which was a bit weird but awesome none the less. It was an epic day and hope it happens again next year, much better when everyone knows each other, no dickheads on track and people moving over, basically how it should be! Don't think ill do another action day at Combe as its just too dangerous

another update after a long time of all being well followed by a blown turbo... oops
The car has only covered 2k miles since MOT-gate, ive finally got round to replacing the rear brake pads for the first time, also surprisingly different to the rx. Nothing special just replacement big brake pads, the last ones managed 2 years with a handful of track days and daily driving so I didn't see the need to upgrade or go fancy. £10 for the pair!
I also had the privilege of attending the race of remembrance in Anglesey with the Skuzzles, Mr Horne, Roger and Northern Rich (north of the M27 anyway), that was a truly epic weekend with the blues kicking in around Wednesday. Its now a must on the calendar!
Back to the car and since July the downpipe had been knocking against the subframe under right hand corners (Llandow is all right hand corners!) and the plan had been to move things around a bit to fit better and stop the noise, since then ive managed to blow the td04 19t turbo I had. Its now in pieces in the skuzzle workshop but ill put it back into a working turbo and sell on due to its rarity, anything I can get for it is better than nothing.
The good news is; I went shopping! having just bought a new manifold and downpipe to suit the td04 flanges I thought itd be a shame to go for a borg warner EFR and have to redo everything. I spent a bit of time on the Scooby forums and trying to find out which turbos are a direct replacement. I discovered a high number of Scooby owners ditch the td04 turbo for a bigger/better version called the ihi vf series. as these are sought after by Scooby owners it makes trying to track one down extremely difficult. After a few weeks of hunting EVERYWHERE! I finally managed to grab one from a guy on the Isle of Wight, he owns a mental Ford there and a decent business, he also features in a few of JaimeFYD's videos for those who know.
Anyway, the new turbo is the IHI VF35 theres a link at the end for the specs not much info as it seems...
The whp on the td04 was ~230, Nick and I agreed to see what the new turbo could do before then being sensible and turning it down to make it somewhat reliable. Nick managed 244whp before the car started to misfire, I was hoping to hit the 300whp mark but it seems if I want to ill need bigger injectors and sort out the spark somehow. As agreed Nick then turned the boost down to 238whp so its still a little more than the td04 but it should (touches wood) now be more reliable, its also nice to ease myself back into driving a manual after a few months of driving an auto, sorry not that auto! and with the time of the year I cant imagine much more would be fun. I would upload all the graphs but photobucket is a Canoe so... meh
I have promised myself though that this is likely to be the last straw, if anything else major breaks then itll be time to grow up and sell it or break it for parts... you've been warned!
