Just chatting to the chap who owned the car before the guy I bought it off, who just happens to be the guy who sunk all the money into it around 4 years ago. I had snooped at his posts on the OC forum from when he was the owner, and had seen he'd done a fair bit. In his ownership it had full respray, new mohair with heated glass, Carbing goodies, one or two Revlimiter goodies, 1800 front brakes with braided lines, the wheels - amongst other stuff. What I wasn't sure of was any engine work. The listing when I found it from a different guy just said 'top end work'. Took the opportunity to ask him today, and he confirmed; rebuilt head, lapped in the valves, new valve stem seals, new front crank seal. He worked on it with a Mazda mechanic. It runs an absolute dream so I'm confident their work was decent. Thinking about it, the price I got this car for is downright criminal!

Today the car had its first MOT in my ownership. Pass, only two 'advisories' on tyres. I knew this were low, though legal, and ordered a set. Unfortunately I got buggered about by Parcel Force, who lost two of the tyres. When I got home from the MOT, the remaining two had arrived. Typical. Anyhoo, all I need now is tyres & alignment, coolant change and someone to look at my aircon. I'm not holding out any hope on the latter getting done before I go away for two weeks driving around Italy. I seriously hope I can though, it's gonna be hot as balls. Here's a random phone shot from last week, and one from today after the brake test. Fairly impressed with how balanced the weight / efficiency appears to be. Weight distribution is 50.7/49.3 so not far off the magic 50/50! May get it corner weighted once I'm home from the trip.

Well, the trip has gotten slightly shorter, but not by all that much. Was originally Cambridge > Red Bull Ring > Monaco > Mille Miglia > Cambridge. Now it’s Cambridge > Mille Miglia > Cambridge.
Cannot wait.

I've no idea how I remembered the reg but H493 PTW was my first car! Loved it and hated having to sell it but its great to see its still going strong and looking fabulous. Just bought a MK2 now I no longer have the need to transport children back and forth.

Few little bits done in the last few days; - replaced both shift boots & turret oil - obtained a refurbished PAS rack as mine has been leaking for a little while - new tie rod ends to be fitted with replacement rack - nothing wrong with existing, but whilst I’m under there... - new WIPAC headlamps & Nightbreaker bulbs - replaced bulbs in dash cluster, fuel one had died so changed the whole lot - fixed faulty OS pop-up; for the last 6 months I've had my lights up permanently due to not going all the way up, and eventually failing to move at all, so it's nice to have that rectified. Wasn't motor as thought so now have a spare - heater intake vent cleared from a shartload of debris - cleared many a leaf from inside front wings Waiting to have the rack replaced and will have brakes bled, & try and get to bottom of idle droop / misfire type hesitation low down under load, and then onto WIM for alignment. Misplaced screw for one of my rear damper adjustment cables, so a couple of those and some anti rust coat for the suspension on the way. Have an image from back in February.

Having read that back it sounds as if my car is a bit of a nail, not usually the case!

Is the heater intake at the passenger side of the windscreen scuttle panel?

It is indeed.
3 or 4 screws out of the scuttle panel (can’t remember exactly, but up until the one between the wipers), 4 hidden under that panel, one at the side by the wing, and a couple on the bulkhead itself should see it free.

A few phone snaps from that ~4,000km trip last year. I'll keep it to images of our cars as there's just too much scenery etc to include. Just me in the Roadster, and my folks in their T3 Atlantic. The main purpose of the trip was to follow the Mille Miglia - I'm an automotive photographer, wasn't shooting the event for a client, but if I had it would have been impossible for me to drive, so I didn't mind one bit. We were away for two weeks, starting at a camping site on (or should I say in) Lago d'Iseo for a few nights which is only an hours drive to Brescia, the starting point, and then moving onto Cervia, Siena, Parma, back to Iseo for another 3 or 4 days, then the Aosta Valley. Not a single issue the whole trip. Perfect.
