Latest mods... Superklasse C's/TRD Short Shifter. Feels like an MX5 Gearbox now And a momo Cavallino Sprint Wheel http://instagr.am/p/CqsuT16oXB8 Interestingly this car has enough legroom for me not to really need a QR so.. I'm not installing one. Also a set of ARP Extended Hub/Wheel Studs have arrived, at some expensive. The ones I've got on there are made of cheese and nearly stopped me getting to that trackday since one wheel actually lost two studs (!!!). They just snapped off in my nuts (ouch) while I was trying to undo the. Evidence of rust in the fracture also. Yeah yeah I'll think twice about using 7075 nuts again.. nah just oil that ship up and let's do this. The bad studs were from MR2 ben and probably generic, whereas on the blue turbo roadster I've never had problems with the ARP studs.. so ARP again here we go. I've run 7075 nuts on all my cars for years and I don't think it's the nuts, but rather that the fine folks I had install the studs went a bit gorilla on them... But that'll wait until I replace a rear brake disk. Honestly this car now represents the least of my problems. All the mx5s and this are now.. unproblematic. Ahem.

I don't think it's the nuts, but rather that the fine folks I had install the studs went a bit gorilla on them... ALWAYS PRESS studs in, DO NOT pull them through with a nut etc. pressing pushes the splines into the hub pulling stretches the threads and can cause cracking ^^ Usually means stripping the flanges from the car / bearing BUT if you are going to do things properly..... oddly, I might have mr2 rear bearings in the garage..... Rich.

I've ended up going down the KW V3 route.
Standard KW V3 zzw30 springs are 3K front 5K rear .. a bit too soft!
Ordered up a set of 8K springs to swap from the rear, which will free up the 5ks for the front, and leave me with 3ks laying about.
Also ordered some new KYB topmounts to use for the KW setup. Harder than you'd think, but honesty it's the only brand I trust for a toyota-quality top mount. I'd rather remove the old suspension without having to take the old topmounts off.
Time to borrow some spring compressors anyway though, since I'll be replacing springs....

Also I'm preparing to do some maintenance on the K20 itself, it usually makes a 'shshsh' sound as the oil pressure comes up at cold start and the tensioner slowly pulls the slack out of the motor. Some advice suggests it's just the tensioner, other advice suggests the vtc gear.. but who can say.
I'm probably going to do tensioner and chain and chain guides anyhoo..
This morning when I tried to record the sound (to share with some k20 specialists) it refused to make the noise....
Until tomorrow morning you crazy little engine.
edit:
2nd try.. still not making the noise!

Finally caught the sound on camera/mic:
Only suggestion so far is Starter Motor. That's a lot easier than doing the chain/etc

I would start with the tensioner, it’s an easy job..

Starter motor sneeze, pretty sure that's a thing with the k20.

I've made a start on the KW V3 coilover installation. Good times.

So I finally have the G4X back from Link (they repaired it, FOC) - trigger scope looks basically _perfect_ now and I've got the oil pressure/temp showing as I had hoped it would.
