I feel your pain. Mine was wrinkled for years until I fitted a newer nose, got lucky this time around, wrinkle free, but it's further up than the last one, it covers the holes where the badge used to be. It's a flatter surface. A very stressful job! Yes it's a bit easier up there, which is where my first one went. Since then I've stuck them below the groove. It was a bit easier when I trimmed the previous one to get it as small as I could but the double curve is a real challenge!

Changed the diff oil today. ๐คฎ TBH it wasnโt too bad.
Also painted the tow points.

Passed MOT, but first time without a cat fitted. Sets a precedent.

Changed the gearbox oil & used a 50% fill with redline lightweight shockproof oil. Really does seem to work- quieter box & even easier shift.๐๐ป

I've been pondering getting my cam cover blasted and painted, it looks pretty scruffy at the moment so I was thinking of a dark grey colour with some highlighting on the Mazda letters etc. Then I thought maybe the intake manifold should be cleaned up too, as it's currently got very visible oxidation on the aluminium (under bonnet pic here). Is the intake difficult to remove/reinstall? Am I opening up a can of worms? Should I just clean it while it's installed?

Should I just clean it while it's installed? 1.6 slightly harder than 1.8 due to fuelrail & injectors, a double-depth socket & long extension on a 3/8" ratchet makes for easy work although people moan about access etc. Rich.

Would love mine done as well, probably fresh silver, to go with my wrinkle red cam cover but been concerned also about opening up a can of worms taking it off so never bothered
