It is a weather phenomenon, measured in cubic metres of rain per hour. Absolutely unbelievable if you get caught in one, once when driving, it stopped the traffic on the A7, couldn’t see, the noise was incredible. murciatoday.com/what-is-a-gota-fr%C3%ADa_120607-a.htmlYou may be too far north. I suppose I might put the roof up for that.

And here I was hoping for an edible delicacy. I've seen some rainfall but nothing like that.

it's a funny thing, a lot of spanish towns have ramblas that are basically paved-over rivers. They're dry most of the year. You used to see lots of cars parked in them. Until the deluge.

Barrancas in Valencia, basically dried up river beds, go near them at your peril in heavy rain…

Front Main Seal not so fun... she doesn't want to come! Seal puller I ordered arrived and looked very nice but vs the bear of a seal I have.. was NFG. Ended up bending both the hooks! I've got a spare set of hooks but I'm not going to waste those on this feekkingfront canutseeal.. Went back to trying the drill + screw method, the screw went in then broke the metal part of the seal it was in but the seal (still) didn't move. Cut up my arm in several attempts. More blood sacrifice ffs. I've now found a more more 'beast' seal puller tool that looks a *lot* tougher than the normal hook/claw type seal pullers - .. and ordered it up from a Spanish supplier. www.motionpro.com/product/08-0636Given want a bastard of a seal this is it seems amusing to me that this puller resembles a speculum. While I wasn't bending tools out of shape or cutting myself I also went over the cam cover with some light polish. I really like the worn metal look on it. I don't want it shining but I do want it 'clean'. lol. And packed it up and went to the beach.

I was out over the weekend doing a long distance trial with the MCC. I've done a few of their events before (Lands End, Exeter and Edinburgh trials) but never in the Mazda until now. The tarmac-only 'Classic Road Trial' went around all the narrowest, steepest roads in the westcountry, starting from Chard and ending up near Perranporth in Cornwall. We had a good run with the roof down the whole way, found all the code boards and made it up all the observed sections/hills, and were bang on schedule, so I think we'll get a gold award for our efforts. It was great fun anyway! Some more pics and description in my car thread

Looks like a lot of fun that trial! It's always an experience going over a cattle or sheep grid

The motion pro tool blimmin worked. The seals out and just look at the state of it. http://instagram.com/p/CQs8fUFHy7z I had a good look at the crank surface the seal rides on and it looks fairly decent but I'm going to take some 1000gr emery paper to it just to be sure, before putting the new seal back in and going through all those buttoning up procedures. I also took out the cam seals and replaced them with the genuine Mazda NOK items. Used the other puller with the remaining good hooks, they came out easily. And got an extracurricular activities gram scale and measured some GR5 bits vs the things they are replacing. Yes, 45% the weight of the original.. :-) http://instagram.com/p/CQs-_ccHofx

Put the new front mainseal in with the FM tool, put the new slightly longer key in with the new front crank sprocket, torqued up the bolt to a touch over SNC spec (94 lbft as opposed to 80-87lbft) with plenty of threadlocker.. (again, with the help of the FM crank locker) put back on the cambelt and nailed the timing (I was meticulous with the white marker so this was easy..) retensioned the cambelt... checked it again, it's good.. http://instagram.com/p/CQtizxGnZLG put on front cambelt covers (including sorting out the seals, which needed cutting because oil had blown them up a bit) and put on the new damper and started reattaching the accessory belts.. I've yet to put the cam cover back on. But it is getting close to that time. the dreaded 'did I do it right?" questions keep being asked but that's just sensible self-doubt encouraging me to double check everything.

Well, the engine works !
I had serious bag of spanners lifter tick after starting her up, but she started easy.
I've never had the tick on this engine before now. I suspect what happened is that all the rotating of the cams and crank I did without the engine 'running' [i.e. real oil pressure,] the lifters leaked down without the supply of pressure.
The tick was loud for a few KMs. Once the engine was truly warmed up it went away.
Took it for a wash. Oh god the water spots. So many watermarks.
I cleaned the area under the front main seal so should see if the leak returns, easily enough.
