Good Lord. You look so young! Regards. Rich. Hah! A lot of people say my son looks like me, not many of them say I look young (unless I'm at a VSCC event).
Will be getting the car up in the air this evening to see what's what.

Oh yeah, and we were half a mile from the finish when we went off, and would have won the event! We walked to the last control and still would have come 5th, but not getting there in a car means it was a retirement instead

Just glad you walked away from it :-)

Just glad you walked away from it :-) Yep, me too. No injuries at all, it was quite a slow slide but a bit worrying when we went over the edge!
Looks like a few things are bent at the front, the radiator and fans are closer to the engine now than they should be, and there's a big dent in the radiator at the bottom, but nothing is leaking. Will get everything together to do a coolant change, take out the radiator and see if I can get it all back into the right places for the MOT. The fans are fouling on their shrouds so might need replacing, but when they're out of the car I'll see if I can bodge them back into shape.
The speedo cable had been pulled apart but should go back together OK. There's an electrical plug dangling in the same sort of place but I can't see anything to plug it back into, so I think it might have been for a temp or O2 sensor on the catalytic converter, which was replaced by a resonator section before I bought the car.
The plastic bit ('air guide' according to partsouq) behind the front bumper had been smashed up and I took the rest off before driving it home, probably don't need to replace that?
Other than a dent in the front passenger wing (which also has a big rust hole and needs replacing anyway), and a cracked sidelight, the only other thing I've found so far is some foliage wedged in various places underneath.

that folliage sure gets places. glad it wasn't gravel, your car's never the same again after a gravel trap. it just gets everywhere.
Over here at pueblo al mar, I've been using a local mild incline to do some logging runs, dialing the current ECU into the new cams.
I've setup a laptop for tuner duties :-)
Megalogviewer HD to the rescue.
VE table trim adjustment is fun.
current VE say 20 current AFR say 15.7 target AFR say 12.7
so 15.7/14.7*20 = your new VE number for that cell - in this case, a large VE jump to 24.7 or so, let's call it 25 because I like whole numbers.
I need to top up the clutch fluid.

More Logging & Tuning. New idler and tensioner have arrived along with new cambelt covers from matsuda.
Still smoking.
grumble.

I got rid of all the AC pipework and radiator last night - there was absolutely no gas in the system so it was pretty simple, once I found all the nuts and bolts holding it all in. Will remove the compressor from the engine bay and condenser from behind the glovebox after Christmas, once I've got the necessary shorter PAS belt and the AC delete pipe.
So all I need now is a replacement cooling fan - the housing was deformed so the fan can't spin properly. A couple of the bolts holding it to the radiator sheared off, so will need to get them out (and of course they are in the most inaccessible part of the radiator). The main radiator appears to be fine, it was pushed a bit forward at the bottom but I have heaved it back away from the engine/ARB - I think if the ARB hadn't been in the way, the fans probably would have destroyed themselves or the drive belts at the front of the engine.
Then I just need to check the regular stuff for the MOT which is booked for Wednesday next week.

Actually, thinking about it I could probably bodge it by shaving off the plastic in the bits of the shroud where it fouls. Most of it is fine.

Just in case you don't know it a tile cutting bit on the Dremel is very handy for trimming excess metal, plastic etc.

Happy New Year folks! Just before Xmas I filed off the excess plastic on the fan shroud and put it back in the car, seems fine. The speedo cable had been damaged at both ends (gearbox and dashboard), so I got a replacement from Suffolk Mazda and scraped my knuckles up again fitting it. The car failed the MOT on a loose/worn lower rear suspension arm bolt, which was annoying as I'd replaced them recently. I had used the official torque setting to tighten it up but that clearly wasn't enough, so this time I just did it up as tight as it would go, and it passed.
So, ready for another year of action. Plans are to get rid of the rest of the AC stuff and gather bits to mount the ITBs I picked up in November. Probably won't get that done until late spring, but we'll see.

Took out the AC evaporator thing behind the glove box, and replaced it with the delete pipe, straightforward enough although I was upside down half the time trying to see under the dashboard.
Also started fitting the LED headlamps (cheapo off eBay), need to hack into the wiring for the sidelight and indicator to get them on the halo ring things, but the main and dip beams worked straight away. One of the ring mount/housings didn't like the lamp, while the other one slotted in fine. Will need to work out where they are pointing before dazzling folks in the night too.

I had to grind some 'tabs' off the back of the light units to get mine in, but weird if one fits but the other doesn't! lol The low-beam pattern is pants, though, but still brighter than the sealed-unit OEM efforts, but high-beam is decent. I noticed that that latest Aston Martin Victor one-off seems to have what looks like 7" front headlights made by Wipac, though, which would presumably have excellent light output and beam patterns etc... I might drop them a line... paultan.org/image/2020/09/Aston-Martin-Victor-official-9.jpg (Massive wallpaper-sized file) EDIT: Seems remarkably coincidental that Wipac have apparently just launched a new 7" retail unit! www.wipac-led.com/find-out-moreSeems to show the beam pattern in this review / info article - looks markedly better than a chinese cheap effort... lol. The output seems to be 45000 candela - which I presume is quite bright! c4555dd0-279e-4148-acb2-f12edf328204.filesusr.com/ugd/8782f0_2e923d19fddb4c728b710aba3ab1747f.pdf

Hi Folks,
I found some energy today and removed the Mongrels exhaust system and manifold then started to install the M2 Motorsports system. I had a go at installing the Simpson Racing manifold but it would not quite slot into place. I will have to take the camcover off and undo the nearside engine mount to jack the engine up a little bit. There is an AC pipe which might be a problem. I could not resist a start up with the back box off, then another one with the mid pipe off.
