Drove it. Wondered if it's possible to change the (blowing) gasket where the manifold meets the exhaust/downpipe without getting underneath the car and with just a Halfords spanner set... It's a really awkward area to get a spanner into, so probably not. I've just taken mine off, had to remove the whole exhaust manifold and downpipe together after disconnecting it from the bellhousing bracket...

Had an unexpected couple of hours in the garage yesterday. Got two of the three starter motor bolts undone, couldn't be much more awkward to get to if they tried! One more to go, then the bellhousing bolts holding the gearbox to the engine and the engine mounts and it should be free. Just one electrical connection I can't get off still, some sort of temperature sensor I presume: Does the plug come off the top, or do I need to undo the 'nut' at the bottom? I also tested out the engine crane by picking up the replacement engine. Going to need to move all the stuff in the second half of the garage out of the way so I can move the engine round to the front of the car to fit it, not looking forward to that! One thing I'll need to move is the Isetta. Got the seat back from the upholsterers last weekend so I chucked it in the car and it looks great:

Plug comes off the top, I think there's a metal release clip the other side you can't see from that pic. Although if you're pulling the engine the nut will work as well, just removes the sensor.

Pulled the fuel pump assembly to see why my gauge was reading wrong, since installing the fuel pump, nothing wrong with it, so reinstalled and working fine again, great news! I thought I was fine until I went outside the garage, absolutely flying on petrol fumes

Boggissimo. That’s FAB.
I had one when I was 16. Bloody loved it. Went everywhere in it. But then the ‘Big boys’ made me do it. I bought a Berkeley T60. Ripped out the excelsior engine, that might have been a triple, so long ago, anyway, then I slung in a Royal Enfield Constellation engine. It was frikin lethal. Not surprisingly it ended up in a ditch near Amen Corner railway crossing at Wokingham in Berkshire.
Regards. Rich.
ps. Should anyone be interested I do have a picture of the T60 with RE engine fitted.

Did an oil change & changed the crank sensor. Hopefully that’ll cure a random missfire that seems to occasionally occur.

Used it to take my daughter to school, and forgot that I have disconnected the heater matrix.
Just started to be a bit chilly in the morning here. That means shitting freezing in an mx5 with no heater or roof.

Haven't had a chance to look at the matrix, but i am pretty sure it was the connection to the hoses in the engine bay. The copper pipes were out of shape. Just have loads of other stuff going on at the moment... but now it is colder...

Another MOT passed today, another clean sheet. The new cat (Racing Beat Europe 200 cell) did the job, tester loved the car and wanted to buy it lol. No chance, I've promised it to my Grandson....

Great fun going under car park barriers with it so I never paid in any car parks. It broke the key between the two halfs of the crankshaft so one was hand made out of En40, next disaster was the key was stronger than the crank which broke. so a scrap Honda 250 engine and gerbox went in which gave it the same acceleration as a Mini 1000 up to 70 MPH when it ran out of revs. It was fun driving it down single track lane as it had no reverse with the Honda engine.

This has all gone horribly off topic. But it was terrific fun. I did get it working well, eventually. I was only 15 when I began driving it 😱
Things where different back then. That young lady, my then squeeze, has gone on to be quite let’s say, we’ll known. Ahhh, happy days.
Regards. Rich.
