The penultimate 12 Car rally of the season, and for the first time we managed a fail-free run. Dropped 21 minutes overall, of which 16 were on one section where the nav was crossing grid lines, but in a part of the map where the northings and eastings were the same numbers – plus a couple of ambiguous bits and an error, so in the end we had to trust our luck a bit, but guessed correctly.

Oh and I also took it to the car wash for the first time since last summer, it is still mostly white underneath!

Road trip... Where you off? We're going up to Ullapool from Aberdeenshire, then down the west coast of Scotland for the best bits of the NC500, probably over to Skye as well. 996 911, 986 Boxster S, Z4M Roadster and me in the Mazda hopefully.

haven't actually done anything to the car but ... started talking with Atlex about ECU's, waiting on a Maruha delivery, talking to another about MK2.5 pistons ... wake up in the morning dreaming. Knowing that it's going to take time hurts :-)

Car now back on 4 wheels... For about 2 mins, I've somehow managed to get a puncture, requires further investigation.

Started fitting the rally computer recently donated by Zed.. - repurposed a bracket that used to hold a tablet in my Legacy, spliced the power wires into the radio cabling and worked out where it will sit on the dashboard. Will probably get jiggled to oblivion the first time I take it out on a rally, but we'll see. Ordered a gearbox sensor which should plug straight into the connector and save me hacking the speedo cable.
Also tried to find the source of a small oil drip from the engine, looks like it comes out from behind the timing covers and drips down the front of the sump. So probably front crank or cam seal, which is annoying as I probably should've done it when the engine was out. I have been thinking that there's quite a lot of oil burning going on when I start the car up, so maybe I should get on with rebuilding the old engine in case this one fails too!

So yesterday I swapped out the maruha camgears and gates racing blue belt for a toda gear and toda belt combo. also I reshimmed some of the valves (just 3) since they were a touch out of spec.
the maruha gears finish has worn off and I wanted to get a belt and gear from the same maker since there will then be nobody else to blame.
what I can say is that the TODA belts look exceptionally well made and the finish is better than the gates blue.
the gates blue belt isn't damaged from what I can see, either.

Tuner booked for the weekend, in between house viewings, then MOT before the end of the month.
I'm looking into 82deg.C high flow thermostats, pre-bonnet vents it'd sit 93-95 pretty solidly. Anyone else gone for a high flow thermostat? or is this just moving the problem.
Car came back from the tuner the start of November, it's only been used a handful of times in the 5 months since, I think I'm going to SORN it over winter from now on.

Finally fitted my new brakes. I have lots of other electrical problems to sort out, but shiny brakes win... I currently have the corrado g60 upgrade ont he front and sports brakes on the back. So fronts are not much bigger, but pad area is larer - so should do a better job. I am also waiting for the cooling ducts to turn up, so i should be able to effectively cool them as well...

Annual oil change on the turbo car. Also at last fitted a catch can on the MR2, since it passed the ITV and all, it's not like it needs to be perfect now

I collected a pair of Cobra bucket seats, recently won on eBay. Will see about fitting them later I took out one of my tombstones on Monday night to work out what's what. The Cobras are base mounted (they're old!) so I hoped I could just fit the runners off the standard seats, but they're not quite the same size. So after a bit of umming and ahhing and checking out various options, I discovered that Carbuilder Solutions sell a runner set that will fit them, for about half the price of 'official' Cobra runners. So hopefully they'll arrive tomorrow and I can swap them over. The harnesses will need attaching to the bar on the half cage and to the floor, thanks Zed. for confirming the thread size of the eye bolts. Hopefully they'll arrive tomorrow too and I can fit it all in the evening and be ready for our last 12 Car of the season on Friday! Sadly haven't got the rally tripmeter working yet. It's wired in OK and has power, but neither probe seems to make the distance go up. I've got a Brantz probe that connects to the gearbox, and the original speedo cable probe that came with it from Rich, but nothing's happening. Maybe I've put the wires in the wrong holes of the connector, but documentation is rather scarce...

Tried data-logging in the wet, won't be rushing to do that again but needs must with the MOT tomorrow. After a run I've got the idle keeps dropping to 600rpm and catching - not sure if it's a heat soak issue or something more sinister.
Also looking into DIY'ing a Perspex sheet into a wind blocker for the roll bar, anyone else done something similar?
