Well, fitting the shifter was pretty straightforward (one of the attachment bolts is tricky to get at but I found an old 10mm that did the job eventually). Took it out for a spin and the shifts are super slick and quick, hardly any movement between hand on the wheel and hand on the stick and makes it feel great. The noise is pretty loud though - there's a high pitched whine like in an old school rally car and that's fine, but there's quite a rattle going on at high revs and heavy throttle. Will need to see what I can do about that. I know it's bolted directly to the gearbox so wasn't expecting it to be quiet, I just don't think the rattle is supposed to be there. The guys in Lithuania were pretty easy to deal with so will see if they have a solution. howardb66 or scottydugg did you have any issues with noise on the Fine Cut shifter?

Changing the gearbox oil to the redline stuff made a huge difference in noise & now it’s very quiet.

[Changing the gearbox oil to the redline stuff made a huge difference in noise & now it’s very quiet. I'm already running half redline shockproof and half standard MT90. On my test drive I hadn't added the centre console and gaiter back on, it seems quite a bit better with it, at least on the motorway trundle. Will see what it's like at Hethel tomorrow!

high pitched whine like in an old school rally car try sitting in a 'proper' Mini (the Austin / Morris type) with straight-cut drop-gears / gearkit and diff, thats a cacophony ps. straight-cut gears are still used in competition cars Rich.

Transmission whine, engine noise, gravel hitting the underside, all the good noises!

Another vote for the LSWP/MT90 mix - I'm running this in both my 5sp gearboxes and it's very quiet.

On the turbo car I switched out to a forge turbo actuator (sort of inspired by Howard) and I can say that difference is worth it. I got the G19 fitting kit from Bofi to go with it, which helps position it better on the clocked turbos without it contacting the bonnet.
I had to bump up the duty cycle for the base wastegate duty tables around 15-20% but my EBC now works better than it did before, and without any boost spiking.

I didn't have a rattle to begin with but did after a few hundred miles, I think it was how I had the top boot fitted - it was the JASS performance one so a little tight on this shifter, I would have looked at another option should I have kept the car.

I went out for a spin on Saturday with the roof off/down, to get a loaf of bread - the long way round for a bit of fun. The gearstick rattle isn't really that bad, less noticeable with the roof off anyway. Then yesterday we drove the route for a 12 Car rally we are going to run in January, 60 miles around the back lanes. Can't wait for the season to start again!

Don't take the arch liner off and look in the inspection holes then!

*shudder* I need to boroscope the cills / sills / however you spell it - but I am scared at what I will find... lol I honestly think it will be a full job from front to back + arches, which is not going to be cheap / easy. But then shed 5's seem to be worth a million pounds at the moment so money well spent? lol

You’re looking at what sellers think they are worth, the true value is what people will pay. There is one on car and Classic for close to 16k, it’s a bloody mx5 mk1, with an RS sticker on the wing….., Fools and their money etc etc.

These carbon MX5 seats are ridiculous money now! Set for 5k floating about and they look a bit ropey at best. Perhaps I'm just jealous they weren't built for robust frames.
Finally moved into the new house, 7 months after our offer was accepted, the Mazda money ended up having to go into the house fund pot, but the new driveway would have been a structural rigidity 3 wheel test for the Mazda every time by the looks of it - so maybe it's worked out for the best in the end.
I'm still looking at parts for sale and floating about here though, might be a habit.
